And I quote from the NJ FB page
”It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that the building that has been our home for the last 22 years has been sold, and we will be moving within the next 12 months.
This season of shows will be our last for at least the next year or two.
We are all extremely grateful to the people that made this dream a reality, our members, our club leadership, the Callen’s and the Horning’s.
This is not a goodbye, but a see you later. We plan to continue in a new location, however finding a new space and stripping and moving the layout will take some time.
If you’re able to, please come visit us and say hi at our next few shows. The years of friendly faces, smiles, and laughs have always brought us such joy.
If you have any photos or memories to share, please post them. We’d love to see and hear them!
-The NJ Hi-Railers”

WOW!!! Their layout is MASSIVE!!! I wonder how much of the layout was built with the thought of ever having to move it. I know the Tom Snyder layout can be (and was) moved. But that's tiny compared to the NJ HiRailers immense O-Gauge layout.

They should inquire about the Ex-DL&W Kingsland train station. It is slated to be closed…. Tom

THE NJHR layout is a fantastic work. Haven't been able to make Trainstock the last couple of years and if they move further South in NJ it will be easier for me and many others to visit. Rebuilding the layout will be a massive undertaking but anything is possible. Wish these good guys all the best to continue running and showing this fabulous layout.

I’m sorry to read this. A fantastic layout and an even better group of people who always are welcoming. I’m positive that the rebuild will be even better than ever! Hopefully there is a new location soon.
Hmmmm, still having Trainstock on January 18th? I may have to fly out for that.

Very sad and sounds like a daunting task. I’m contemplating moving my modest 8x4 layout and even that gives me angst.

It is easy for me to say it, but every calamity provides an opportunity. In this case the members can reflect on what they coulda/woulda/shoulda/ done differently to the layout if the task was not so daunting at the current location. That and I am certain that most if not all the current members were quite a bit younger when the layout was created/embellished over time. Everything seems heavier and takes longer than it did back then.
A club down here in Pasadena MD had a long term lease with Marley Station Mall for a retail space to house and display their Holiday layout. While not on the scale as the NJ club, it was a crisis when the new mall owners increased the rent so high that it was a defacto eviction.
The hue and cry from the community caused the mall folks to back off and the club kept their space but the prospect of finding a suitable replacement space let alone dismantle and rebuild the layout was as stressful as it was daunting.
Best wishes to the NJ HiRailer club!

I’ve never been there but have enjoyed the various videos. What an undertaking that will be.
GOOD LUCK

I am wondering if the club got advanced notice of the sale?; did the club try to purchase the building? Wonder why the owner(s), after 22 years decided to sell?

The principal backers and owners of the layout also own the building where the layout is located. The club is chartered as a non-profit enterprise and has about 50 members. There are certainly challenges ahead to move the layout to a building large and affordable enough to accommodate it. The NJHR club has been a great contributor to the O gauge model railroad hobby. IMO, among layouts this is a historic creation and certainly a sight to see. The welcoming attitude of the club has always been top notch and the food excellent. We should all hope that the best years for this layout lie ahead.

The principal backers and owners of the layout also own the building where the layout is located. If true, it sounds like a decision was made by the group to sell their building knowing the place would need to be emptied and the layout moved.
