Woke up to 37 degree temperatures this morning the furnace is miss behaving, but working. A friend who knows how to work on them is stopping by to install a new thermostat mainly because I'm not handy that way and I'm not ready to give my kidney for a service call. However if it comes to that, I guess my left kidney will do.đ

Down to 40 degrees overnight; I'm surprised the heat-pump (a misnomer if there ever was one) didn't kick on. The "fall snap" is here.

Getting chilly here in central MA as well. But they say we are back in the 70s next week. Probably the last hurrah
I donât mind waking up in the 30s and getting into the 50s or 60s.

If not, back slowly away from your layout, and call the local fire marshal . . .

Good grief, what were you trying to control, the Space Shuttle?? IME, even smart thermostats only require two control wires if heat only, and three (w. common ground) or four (w. separate/redundant grounds) if heating and A/C. Most take power from the control circuit voltage (some w. built-in backup battery), but I suppose some could require an external power source that might require a couple more wires, but ten/eleven??

Never mind -- I answered at least part of my own question. I googled smart thermostat wiring, and it appears various HVAC systems have a variety of wire patterns, up to about five or so. Still don't see any 10/11 wire combos, though . . .

No clue, but I had to get an HVAC guy and another from the utility company to sort it out. I wired it first, but the heat would only run on âauxiliaryâ. I had a detailed wiring schematic from the manufacturer. I connected all ten of the idâd wires, leaving one additional disconnected. The HVAC guy checked and said I had it wired correctly and just put a wire nut on no. 11. Still wouldnâtât run correctly. He gave up, so I called in a BGE guy to sort it out.
I had to replace the first floor zone heat pump a couple months ago...the installer assured me the system was tested and the heat will work properly. A/C works fine. I guess weâll know later this week when the chill hits.

Paul, I am glad it's wired correctly now. If you had not gotten it correctly, your toilet would have stopped working. My wife reported that there was frost on neighbor's foofs. There have been pleasant daytime temps, and we are enjoying the start of fall in our new neighborhood. Alfred

Thanks Alfred, but what's a "foof"?

Now, a camera in my refrigerator so I can use my smart phone to see if I need milk...yeah, I'm all over that.
