For those interested in the beautifully decorated and well-detailed RMT ore cars, here are some iPhone photos of the just-delivered New Hope & Ivyland model. This is a Henning’s Trains exclusive that was marketed as a ballast car. Hence the light colored load. For the under $30 price, the loads are “ok”, but it will be a straightforward upgrade to add real O-scale ballast atop a light layer of glue for added realism. That’s my plan. Henning’s is currently fulfilling pre-orders that were made over 2 years ago. So it’s been a long wait for New Hope & Ivyland RR enthusiasts. Please refer to my comments in the other New Hope RR thread here on OGF that explain what brought us to this point with RMT. Kudos to RMT/Emery for stepping up to the plate and making good on these products. Henning’s will have a booth in the Orange Hall this week at York. So check ‘em out to see what they might be bringing tonthe show after pre-orders are shipped. Initial first-look appears that RMT has satisfactorily addressed the problem with trucks and wheelsets. So these should be good to go. I’m surmising Pat’s Trains and Henning’s Trains will be picking up some of the custom-runs that Brady’s Train Outlet decided not to carry, such as the Westinghouse model that looks pretty cool. And Beth Steel ore cars are always a favorite too. I have many from the original RMT lineup from many years ago. But there are a couple of new Beth Steel plant models represented in this latest production run. So with all that being said… here are some quick iPhone snapshots that highlight this New Hope & Ivyland RR ore car:

For those who might be interested, these New Hope & Ivyland cars are now on the Henning's Trains website as 2-packs for roughly $60. Website indicates 18 two-packs in fsstock. And I was told they were gonna bring some to York too. So I'm not sure if that's a separate quantity... or if that's included in the 18 two-packs on the website. Either way, I'd plan to visit Henning's booth EARLY.

The New Hope & Ivyland cars look pretty good. Same for the Alaska and the Strasburg Railroad versions. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the Norfolk Southern ore cars. Check out the numbers that look like stickers.
Not very impressive. They may have recovered the fumble, but it's still 3rd and 25.

I would prefer Bettendorf trucks as seen on most of these older type of ore cars. They just look better. It’s easier for me to smooth the loads using calk, then paint and glue them using real sand. Many of these cars were repurposed for that bulk material in later times. Amen Brother. it's a fumble on the 5-yard line for me. Such a shame. Cars look fantastic, but the trucks just lost the game.

I was one of RMT’s more vocal critics, when these cars were first delivered — as they couldn’t even stay on the straightest of well-laid track without derailing. So the fact that these cars now roll smoothly, stay on the track, remain coupled and carry a street-price of under $30/car make them a satisfying compromise for me. I suppose if you want real sprung trucks or a specific style, you can always replace them yourself. But then you’re no longer looking at a $30 piece of rolling stock.

THE PLAY IS UNDER REVIEW.
Let’s take a look at the replay. We see the ore car continuing down the assembly line and as it enters the decal section it looks like, yes, there it is, the car number decal was replaced by a sticker and maybe glossed over. I can’t be sure. Let’s slow down the replay. Seems like it’s a sticker as it enters the shipping box. The ball has come out and it’s on the ground. Let’s hear the referee’s decision.
AFTER FURTHER REVIEW, A CAR NUMBER STICKER WAS APPLIED AND THE BALL CAME OUT. THE RULING IS A FUMBLE. FOURTH DOWN!
Well there you have it Richie. How are they going to recover from this mishap at such a crucial stage of the game? Beautiful cars though.

Kudos to RMT/Emery for stepping up to the plate and making good on these products. Did they make good in the Bethlehem Sparrows Point and Johnstown plant ore cars? I haven't seen them.

Besides that I would likely lose in a tug of war!

I guess some are never pleased. It's a thirty-dollar car. I just watched a preview of their new scale boxcar, they are very well done. I wonder what the critics will say about them.

Where did you see the preview? Some of their new reefers have piqued my interest, but I'm waiting to see what they really look like.

Sean's Train Depot reviewed a box car and I believe an ore car on his YouTube channel. The reefers are not here yet.

... Did they make good in the Bethlehem Sparrows Point and Johnstown plant ore cars? I haven't seen them. I'm sure they did. The Beth Steel ore cars were part of the bunch released a while ago that had to be returned because of the faulty trucks. I have several boxes of Beth Steel ore cars (in a variety of plant names) from RMT's original days many, MANY years ago. But I do plan to snag a few of this production run's Lackawanna Plant car, which carries a GREEN logo. All the other plant named cars have black logos, if I recall correctly.
According to the RMT website, all the Beth Steel ore cars (except Rexmont Plant) should be in-stock soon, with the Rexmont car (black logo) listed for delivery starting October. Although the only ore cars Hennings Trains had in-stock last week (when I visited the store) were their custom-run New Hope & Ivyland.
ALERT: Today I noticed a bunch more ore car roadnames added to their website (but no Beth Steel yet)... so they might be bringing some stock out to York. So check out the Hennings Trains booth located in the Orange Hall, if you're attending York this week.

I thought the New Hope and Ivyland ore cars looked better in person than the photos. I just think that RMT is putting way too many graphics on these cars.
Yes, they are $30 cars, and in my opinion, they look like $30 cars.

I’d estimate that nearly half the real estate in the Henning’s Trains booth at York was devoted to RMT rolling stock. Boxcars and ore cars were stacked high and deep. So they must have received quite a shipment.
From what I understand, the roadnames in-stock now are ones that were newly produced product with the new trucks/wheelsets. Any of the rolling stock that were returned to Emery several months ago (i.e., Beth Steel) still need to have their trucks replaced — presumably up in Easton, PA. But don’t quote me on that.
I was impressed with most of what I saw. So I purchased some in Black River & Western, and Lehigh & New England liveries (see below):
Not sure what to say about the yellow Norfolk Southern ore cars. Of the handful of liveries Henning’s had at York, Norfolk Southern was the only one where I noticed blatant evidence of the road number having a smudgy patchwork appearance applied to the car body. There's "slight" evidence of this on the Black River & Western ore car, but you really need to look closely to see it. Perhaps Walter can provide some insight about this. We shall see. But for trains in motion on your layout, not too much of this will be noticeable compared to the benefit of creating a long unit train at such a reasonable cost.
The two Reading & Northern boxcars looked to have some really nice graphics, but I only saw them in boxes at York. And I didn’t buy any to take home and photograph. Most buyers will be very happy with these — especially at the $30-$35 price range. They certainly work for my budget.
