If you ask a question like that, you must be one of the uninformed. Unfortunately, 3r is full of colorful, fantasy and whimsical items folks seem to spend big bucks on. I never could fathom that. I choose all my purchases carefully. The train industries success will depend on the peoples choice.

The train industries success will depend on the peoples choice. “If you ask a question like that, you must be one of the uninformed.”l don’t know what question you are referring to. I’m not being critical, I would just like to understand. “Unfortunately, 3r is full of colorful, fantasy and whimsical items folks seem to spend big bucks on. I never could fathom that.”3 rail O gauge trains have always been toy trains rather than scale trains, thus all the fantasy and colorful but prototypically incorrect paint schemes. The relatively recent trend toward 3R O scale is influenced by its toy train heritage. I think that will always be. Guys will spend big bucks on fantasy O gauge because it’s what they enjoy. My gut feeling, and I could be wrong, is that the overwhelming majority of “serious” scale modelers go with 2 rail rather than 3. The 3R O scale guys are more loosey goosey when it comes to prototypical accuracy than 2 railers. Not a criticism of 3R O scale, just my opinion.

Historically I would agree that 3 rail has its' roots firmly in the toy genre, however IMO there has been a distinct trend toward more prototypically correct approximations and realistic operation. I once characterized this as HO on steroids as respects the size. Consequently I transitioned over to tinplate for awhile as I felt that I could never build a realistic enough layout to compliment the level of relative realism being built by Lionel and MTH.

thanks for steering this thread back to trains. A true shame that it went politcal due to Rocky Snowflakes and the other hypocrites. Rebuttals containing non-fiction facts must be like falling into poison ivy for these lost souls. Truth may hurt, but learn from it and put your big girl pants on and try and use critical thinking.

Oh but you wasted no time sinking into the gutter — directly attacking members who think differently… which until your post hadn’t been done in this thread. Thanks for letting us know where you stand.

When people spread lies, false information, and attack others, they open themselves up for the same on a personal level.
In this thread you not only demeaned the current sitting Vice President, but you also insinuated that because one locomotive went unsold, that somehow indicates that the election results were fraudulent.

We don't need political firestorms erupting here. For those inclined to such rhetoric please take it to MSNBC, CNN, FOX NEWS, and similar political sites.
