Vaughn Meader was funny. Both Republicans and Democrats enjoyed his act.

There was a time when humour was what it was meant for, laughing and enjoying a good joke. One of the best political person as well as his family enjoyed the humour that these albums brought. These are Toy Trains, enjoy the humour of them. Fair enough . . . but there's humor intended to include and entertain, as with the Vaughn Meader albums, and then there's nasty attempts to belittle and demean the personal characteristics of the "other" under the guise of humor . . . and in the current contest it's not even close to being a "both sides" issue. To be clear, I have no issue with toy trains carrying rolling ads for any politician (not my cuppa, but to each his own, I guess), but when the "humor" in the commentary begins to consistently take on the demeaning tone of one of the candidates, enough is enough. It's less a matter of losing *my* sense of humor, than it is a loss of civility, sense of decency and restraint by some, and an unwillingness to be subjected to that kind of assault by others, especially in a forum that prides itself on compassion and consideration. But, YMMV . . .

If a person invests in a toy train to make a political statement for their favored candidate or political persuasion I see that money better used by contributing it directly to that candidate or party.

Reread posts two and three . . . Still don't see a issue, someone needs to relax and run their trains.
Nothing in the rules for the forum says you have to read a thread/post or even respond. Don't like something move on. Exactly. "Political Correctness" has RUINED this country and destroyed the concept of humor. Some of THE BEST SITCOM TV SHOWS from the 1970's and 1980's could never be produced today, because folks get their underwear in a bunch so easily now. And that's a darn shame. So that's all I'm gonna say here.

Like I say my neighbor and my brother n law, and I feel very strongly in the opposite directions, but we still have a beer and chuckle about it and do share comradery with playing a round of golf. I hope you will not take us too seriously and still enjoy sharing some O gauge trains with us on this forum.

Yes, everyone is entitled to their views . . . but they are *not* entitled to express those views everywhere, especially in ways that may be offensive to others. I know the demographic populating toy train forums and don't usually take offense when someone just waves their team flag a bit, but there are limits, and mine is reached when the "humor" devolves into personal slurs and misinformation. My responses were intended to remind everyone that this is *not* a political clubhouse, but rather a public space dedicated to *non*-political topics (as others have also pointed out), and to give fair warning that anyone who feels otherwise may get responses they wouldn't appreciate. I don't feel the need to inflict my political views on anyone . . . and would appreciate the reciprocal courtesy!

This is why I posted on PAGE 1, "NO POLITICS" I know someone would offend somebody!
We have a great forum here, lots of great people. Lets keep it that way. Talk about the locomotives and cars but keep your political views to yourself, no snide remarks.
Think!!!!!!before you type!!!! Hey look I have made remarks on other posts that I'm not proud of but I have learned to temper my remarks by stopping and reading what i just typed. Some I deleted and some was ok. I just want everyone to try!!!!

Hey look I have made remarks on other posts that I'm not proud of but I have learned to temper my remarks by stopping and reading what i just typed. Some I deleted and some was ok. I just want everyone to try!!!! Dave Dave, I hear ya buddy... and your intentions are good ones. But as I said earlier, political correctness has ruined our ability to enjoy comedy and laugh at ourselves... because everyone's brand of "humor" is different. So those who are easily offended have ruined it for all of us. Sorry... but not in my world. I don't believe in political correctness. I've never practiced it. And I certainly won't start now... just because something i say in jest "might" offend somebody. Life is short. And people need to relax and laugh at themselves with others.
Case in point: as a healthy U.S. male with strong Italian heritage, I grew up hearing TONS of jokes and inferences to Italians having connections to the mafia. I'm sure many of us here heard that too. Do I get offended by it? I could. BUT I DON'T. AND FOR GOOD REASON. IT'S OFTEN FUNNY AND HARMLESS... which is precisely what we had going in this thread. No harm. No foul. It didn't take over the thread. They were just comments made in jest about two competing MTH locomotive announcements. No apologies necessary.
Take a listen to this video clip from the 1970's, when Don Rickles made a surprise appearance on the Johnny Carson show, while he was interviewing Frank Sinatra (who LOVED toy trains by the way). The first time I watched this video, I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. So look at the kind of comedy that's "no longer permitted" today, because we have people who are so "easily offended" to the degree that everyone is now walking on eggshells wondering what they can and cannot say. Frankly, why give these whiners that kind of power. I won't have any of it. And if they're that easily offended, that's their problem. Capiche???

If this forum'smoderators are going to warn people about including political comments in their posts here I'd say we may be embarking on a slippery slope towards possible censorship which happened on that other site where many of our current members came from either voluntarily due to that site's moderation or were banished from by that moderator. I thought this forum was a refreshing haven from being warned regarding such discussions.

I thought this forum was a refreshing haven from being warned regarding such discussions. Well, I can't speak for the moderators, but urging self-restraint in avoiding political rants (and boy, talk about slippery slopes, *there's* one for the ages!) is a far cry from censorship or heavy-handed moderation. One of the costs of "free speech", after all (like just about every other liberty), is the need for self-restraint, if only to avoid the damage to one's reputation by being thought a flaming a*hole who doesn't care what others think of him or her. Of course, if you really don't care what other people think about what you say, you probably don't have much of a reputation to damage anyway . . .

Let me say here I am not one of the moderators. It is not up to me to do anything here. I belonged to that other forum and got removed for various reasons. I want this forum to stay, I can't say enough how much fun it has been since I found it. I don't want it to go away because of petty arguments. Also let me say I am ex military and a Ronald Reagan conservative and I have no issues with what has been said here. I just do not want to loose what we all enjoy. The other Dave is so right in his statements and I agree with him. Lets not waste the opportunity here! In the great Captain Kirks saying "lets have some fun"

Getting back to trains for a moment, while enthusiasm for one candidate over another may be an aspect driving sales of one engine over another, IMO the Harris engine is plug ugly. Even if I was inclined to buy the Harris engine as a show of support, I would leave it in the box.
By comparison the Trump engine is colorful, vibrant, eye catching.
On appearance alone I would buy the Trump engine if I were so inclined.
I wish someone would do an Alfred E. Neumann for President engine. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

I thought this forum was a refreshing haven from being warned regarding such discussions. We are not like that other forum where an innocent comment will get your post censored or sometimes get you banned. My “warning” isn’t a “don’t do it or you’ll be punished” warning but a reminder that this is a train forum, not a political forum. Political arguments get nasty very quickly, especially when the venue is a social media platform. We are friends here who have various political views. My warning is an appeal to stay away from politics. No member’s post(s) have been censored and no one has been banned.
