For those tired or bored by the Olympics, I give you the "Olympian" Thank you, Walter. I am both tired and bored as Mrs. is a big fan and at this very moment I am being subjected to a non-stop broadcast which is something to do with horse riding or maybe it’s some stupid sport like rugby or field hockey.
I have very little rolling stock to do with the old Milwaukee Road and what I have is in UP colors. The video reminded me of how extensive the M.R. network was including a spur line to Terre Haute, Indiana. What could be more exotic than that?
However, this is an excuse to to remind myself of some fine examples of passenger cars I’ve had including this Skytop observation sleeper:
This is an old favorite that was later supplemented by a couple of GGD cars:
Not sure which of these (Tip Top Tap bar car and Great Dome) apart from the Skytop was part of the Olympian even after seeing the video but I am not fanatical about such things.

Finally saw some boxing early this AM, all good bouts. This handball game is interesting...looks like a game put together by a bunch of the neighborhood kids, lol.

Never been a fan of the Olympics. My ex wife was glued to the TV for 3 weeks... while I was running trains in the basement.

I enjoy the Olympics for some of the more obscure sports, ones not dominated by grossly overpaid professionals. To see a young person compete at the top-level after dedicating years of training and sacrifice to get there is pretty remarkable. I remember track-and-field, archery, wrestling, etc. from high-school, especially how difficult some of it was. I can only imagine the sense of euphoria or heartbreak that must wash over these folks in those final moments of competition.

It’s against the spirit of the games in my opinion.

The athletes trotted out by the Soviets and the Eastern Bloc countries during 1970s and 1980s were anything but amateurs, so many western entrants competed at a huge disadvantage. Also, the argument can be made that the Olympics should be the showcase of the world's greatest athletes, and many of the very best are professionals. I would argue that professional team sports like soccer, basketball, golf, tennis, etc., shouldn't be in the Olympics...there are already venues for their measure of performance/skill, so why repeat it at the Olympics?

True, it’s a bit complicated. I guess I don’t like seeing uneven matches. Putting an NBA super team up against some countries just seems ridiculous. But, your make a good point.

Well I guess I should tell you guys I don't care much for any kind of sport especially professional sports.
I do admire Olympic athletes because they work very hard to get into the Olympics. I also appreciate high school and little league sports because they do for the love of the sport

I like the equestrian events, track and field, and the mountain biking was pretty cool.
Not that I don't like them but I find it very annoying that they usually only show gymnastics and swimming during prime time. It's like a drama show. During the winter olympics they only show figure skating. Very annoying and to me it insults the other events.

But that doesn't represent the full games very well. There are some very exciting and interesting sports to watch but it is impossible to do so.

If you have cable/satellite, switch over to USA Network; multiple HD channels with varied coverage. I've been watching this handball thing for days, badminton, women's rugby, soccer, boxing, and a few other things. None of the prime-time stuff, and much of it teams other than the USA. As far as the USA goes, somebody needs to sort out the goof with the cow-bell at the swimming events. I agree with the Australians, it's annoying as ****.

The woman vs men in boxing should be coming up. I don't know why this a Olympic sport and it is until a woman is critically hurt. Why the Olympic committee allowed this is beyond all reason. Of course they also allowed the opening bit that upset the entire Christian community. Plus the TV stations showed it. They also lost quite a few of the sponsors of the Olympics because of it.
I love seeing kids who have worked real hard competing in their favorite sports, keep the professionals out and the politics out.
