I was watching the news and learned that there has been some sabotage on the trains in France, supposedly to protest the Olympics. Very sad that people have to resort to that. Anyway, I thought we could do a bit of a divergence and talk about the Olympics on this thread. Let's start with an informal poll. What is your favorite Summer Olympic Sport?

Synchronized Swimming - NOT! Basketball, dating back to when the US could annihilate any other national team.
Actually Mrs. is utterly devoted to the Olympics spectacle and I put up with it as background noise or vacate the room. This is where a basement or attic would come in very handy.

Am I alone, and not caring at all? Maybe cold but the coverage by NBC has sucked over the last twenty years. Just hard to watch and since I'm a cord cutter, I'm betting the coverage I can watch is limited.

For me it's kind of like watching soccer, which I never played and for all practical purposes didn't exist when I was growing up. But it's a worthy subject of discussion because (a) it takes my mind off the grim subject of politics and (b) some of it interests my nearest and dearest family members, with whom I have to keep in touch somehow!

I'm a traditionalist, so not a big fan of many of the sport additions/deletions in recent years. Thank goodness softball didn't make the cut this time around. That game is best left to the family reunion, a borrowed mitt, and a beer in your right hand (if right-handed).
Boxing was a personal favorite for many years, but that doesn't see much coverage these days.

I can appreciate the athleticism in all the competitions. But not many Olympic sports hold my interest.
I do love basketball in summer and hockey in the winter games but with most of the players all over the world being professional now I feel like I’m just watching another NBA or NHL game. Although the Gold Medal games are pretty good.

I'm told by the most reliable source possible (Mrs.) that I am going to be subjected to the opening ceremony from Paris later today.
My heart sank (into the depths of despair). In view of what happened to the French Railways earlier today, politics, communal/sectarian/politically-inspired violence will once again be on the agenda.
Fortunately I have some actual work - and a train project that has lain idle for two weeks - to distract me, even without an attic or basement.

Except for swimming, I'm a Winter Olympic person. Love everything they offer in Winter.

Now can model layout building be considered for the Olympics?

Now can model layout building be considered for the Olympics? Why not? Everything else (that is an obsession for a very limited community) is. However, I am not sure that layout building could possibly fit in the two week space of the Olympics or generate much TV interest; too much like watching paint dry or slow-roasting pork butt.

Maybe York bargain hunting can!
