Why not? Everything else (that is an obsession for a very limited community) is. However, I am not sure that layout building could possibly fit in the two week space of the Olympics or generate much TV interest; too much like watching paint dry or slow-roasting pork butt. Maybe York bargain hunting can! You're killing me, Adam. I'm rolling on the floor laughing.
I can see it now. Immediately after the National Anthem plays, they hold the Tinplate locomotive category. The contestants run off into the Member halls, leaping tables, going the wrong way down aisles while the septegenarians in the Shadd Detective Agency futilely attempt to keep order. After the prizes are returned, the judges could hold up their Grading Category cards! Think of it! All the physicality of the moshe pit AND the drama of ice-skating style judging! The drama! The humanity! The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat...
Sorry, I got a little carried away. (We need better emojis!)

So Barbaric! I feel victorious doing the methodical approach. Instead of rushing in and buying a few trains, I go in stealth like and buy them all!!!

Come on, Brian! Everyone knows train buying is a blood sport! Right up there with MMA.

Now can model layout building be considered for the Olympics? Why not? Everything else (that is an obsession for a very limited community) is. However, I am not sure that layout building could possibly fit in the two week space of the Olympics or generate much TV interest; too much like watching paint dry or slow-roasting pork butt. Oh, no problem -- just conclude the competition and award the prize for the *preceding* Olympics each time! Four years would be about right for the "speed building" competition . . . I'm sure time lapse photography of the lengthening beards or graying hair would maintain viewing interest . . .

It would be something like "Fastest time from Announcement to Customer Ship". Wait, maybe four years isn't long enough?

I have loved all professional sports at one time in my life but I'm kinda drifting away from sports. Too much politics, too much money involved, too expensive to go to. Watching sports on tv is like watching grass grow, watching it live is even worse!! I like it when the home town teams win but its not like it was before! Maybe I'm getting old and cranky but its not like it was.
The Olympics I have never watched, don't intend to watch them and basically don't care who wins!!

I am very sorry for you. Frankly, nobody does "bizarre" like the French.
George Yeah, they've just proved that again, although Paris itself is a great background for being bizarre. DC Comics got it right years ago:

As a whole never really been interested in them except for some reason was the bob sleding they do/did in winter Olympics Bobsledding is neat. Another that fascinates me is skeleton (may not be the right spelling). This is basically a very low to the ice sled. One rider, face down, going at crazy speeds. The level of danger is crazy.

Luge or Skeleton? In luge, athletes take their mark in a seated position and push against the ice with their hands to launch themselves forward. For the remainder of the race, competitors sled down the course on their backs, feet first. On the flip side, skeleton athletes take their mark from a standing position and run in an all-out sprint for almost 40 meters before hurling their bodies stomach down, head first onto the sled.
Both can reach 90MPH

I watched Ledecky get whipped by Titmus, the Australian. This U.S./Australia battle in the pool is going to be epic.

Opening ceremony was strange to say the least. Celine Dion sang and did great. I’m not a huge fan but I know she has been struggling with medical issues lately.
As with anything else, there is good and bad. I’m in it to root for the atheletes who work so hard to get there. I ignore the politics.

As with anything else, there is good and bad. I’m in it to root for the atheletes who work so hard to get there. I ignore the politics. That was also the verdict in my household from those who paid attention - I only ducked in and out of the room while it was on.
Some of the internet commentary from other Euro nations was scathing, however - particularly the UK and Germany (of course).
Anyway, it reminded me of the (in)famous Oscar Wilde dictum from a book about his American experiences: "When good Americans die, they go to Paris. Where do bad Americans go? They stay in America." Hmmmmm. Having dealt with French counterparties a few times over the years I totally prefer English speakers, although central Paris is a relatively small but beautiful area (kind of like Chicago).
