Memorial Day is more then a day off, premium pay for those that do have to work. More then picnics and BBQs. Its remembering what many gave up so we may enjoy that, and what it costs them to give us the freedom. Lets remember them and what it costs them to give us, freedom. Lets celebate their ultimate sacrifice and give a moment to reflect and honor them.

From the movie, Saving Private Ryan!!
Also a great remembrance of the soldiers who gave all!!!
Everybody and I mean everybody should watch the video and thank those brave men who gave all to protect our country.
Too many people today take what we have for granted, the elite schools apparently have forgotten. Its time for a change, be the teachers!!!

Brings a tear to my eye when I remember the wide-eyed,fresh-face kids from Iowa.Miss,Ohio,Mo,Ks,etc. Arriving in Nam in '66/67/68. Then a few weeks/days, even hours, to see them leave in a black body-bag. What a waste!! Still doesnt make any sence to me. Tell me what the hell were we fighting for? We were just cannon fodder. IMHO Rob Since our inception as a country we have fought to keep it. The world has never been at peace and every so often someone comes along that wants what you have and because of that the men of the military are there to protect it. I wish it was not. I have lost many friends and family through out the years because of war. I don't want it to happen again! But unfortunately it will happen again and as time goes on the weapons keep getting more terrifying and that only means one thing, more soldiers and people will die. I'm not that all positive that we will avoid another war in the very near future but lets hope and pray it does not happen. Dave

Dave Unfortunately there are entire civilizations that are groomed from birth to hate any free democracy and are taught to kill or maim as many of us as they can. Fortunately a lot of these attempts are thwarted by our government and military that we never know about. But those that hate us only need to succeed once to cause chaos. And there are no “friendly” adversaries. Don’t think for a minute that China, Russia, North Korea and Iran and probably others wouldn’t set us on fire in a heartbeat.
I thank the Lord everyday for giving us the strength and courage that our military possesses to keep us safe. And to destroy the sumbiches that try to attack us.
God bless our troops and police officers and God Bless The United States of America.

We were just cannon fodder. Political BS. Rob The real sad part of this, is most of them did not volunteer but were drafted. And actually you can add 69/70/71/72/73 to that also.

We were just cannon fodder. Political BS. Rob Lyndon Johnson wouldn’t allow the army to do its job in Viet Nam. It should have been a short war ending with the total defeat of North Viet Nam but Johnson ordered a defensive strategy. After the Tet offensive, which was a devastating defeat for the communists, the generals wanted to finish the job and destroy what was left of the NVA and the Vietcong, but Johnson said “NO!” and so the war went on and on with no chance of winning, just the hope that we could outlast the communists and they would eventually give up, but, of course, that didn’t happen. With no plan for victory and the body count being reported on the news each day public sentiment turned against the war. Johnson was so unpopular that he didn’t run for reelection but the damage had been done. In the end our soldiers died for nothing but it’s not their fault. They did their duty and served their country and we should be proud of them. I am very sorry that we had terrible leadership that cost those guys their lives.

I had turned 18 when they stopped the draft, but some of my friends had to go. They made it home in one piece physically, but mentally was a different story.

When I volunteered at the VA after my enlistment it was because I was asked by the local VA to help returning vets. They didn't want to talk to doctors, shrinks and so forth they wanted to talk to someone who knew what they went through. They wanted someone to Listen not talk. It went on for 4 years. Some guys you knew would never recover from the scars of war.
After the gulf war In 1990's I did it all over again, listening to woe and regret. It was my pleasure and responsibility to help those brothers in need. I will never forget each and every one and to this day I still have contact with alot of them.
May god bless them all!!!

I think there is some confusion about memorial day. Memorial or decoration day is for remembering those who lost or gave up their life.
Veterans day is for honoring those who served but are still living.
