Crazy! I’d expect to be able to ride on it for that price.

I'm not sure why *bay would or should charge for shipping. That is strictly on the item seller as to responsibility, choice of shipper and packing. Only other involvement might be if the buyer communicates a preferred shipper of his own. And that would be strictly between the seller and buyer. NOT *bay. Fee for using *bay's platform? Yes. PayPal fee of some kind? Yes. You are using them, so you should pay for the privilege. But to skim a fee for "shipping" ? Something is just not right there. (as you can tell, I don't use *bay)

(as you can tell, I don't use *bay) Their thinking on that is to prevent people from inflating shipping cost to offset a low listing price They also say that their shipping costs are discounted for sellers so it shouldnt matter that they charge a fee for shipping costs Most sellers are also forced to accept Ebays money management so Paypal is out of the picture to them now

The one for $600 came with an autographed certificate of authenticity from a You Boob influencer Yes! I nearly wet myself at the thought (NOT). Gee, shouldn’t we recognize people for actually DOING something? Being famous for nothing isn’t a concept I can wrap my head around. Merit, people, merit. George

Have any of you that sell on Ebay had to deal with What I will call a shyster buyer. This has happened to a friend of mine in this area that sells a lot of trains on Ebay
He sends a like new item and the buyer claims it was damaged when he receives it. So he sends it back except it is not the one that was shipped to him. Same type engine that was shipped that the buyer probably dropped and is trying to screw the seller. This has happened twice in the last 6 months and Ebay sided with the buyer both times

I sold a set of 4 G scale USA Trains passenger cars with people installed. The buyer claimed the cars were damaged and not as described. eBay sided with the buyer and refused to give me the funds and authorized a return label but the buyer never returned the cars. After about a month I complained to eBay that I had no trains and no money. They finally released my money. I was lucky that the buyer didn’t send me 4 junk cars. I never sold anything on eBay again.

Buyer sent claim to E Bay that it wasn't complete and as described. When it came it didn't even match the pictures that he had put up and guts were gone. You guessed it, E Bay sided with buyer and besides having to pay return postage on a radio with a brick in it, he also lost the 250.00, and postage to ship it. Sellers can't even post feedbacks to warn other sellers on these type buyers.

Anecdotally an ebay seller told me that the message loud and clear from Ebay is we need more buyers, not sellers.
In the beginning of Ebay buyers were the group being victimized in any dispute with sellers. Sellers could do no wrong and buyers had better beware.
The pendulum has swung to the exact opposite extreme today where the buyer can pretty much say anything and Ebay will refund money regardless of the facts.
When I sold my tinplate collection a few years ago I went with the risk of an absolute auction house rather than endure the fees and BS of Ebay. An action BTW that I never regretted.

I refuse to sell on eBay. Just isn't worth it for casually selling and thinning out my collection from time to time. I once was a big proponent of online forum sales. But seriously, the traffic just isn't there anymore to justify the time it takes to photograph items and build a nice for-sale thread the way I did several years ago with 2 or 3 dozen items. Now my preference is selling at Allentown ATMA in Feb and Nov. Those are the only two train shows I attend as a seller, and it works for me. Lots of physical work, but always worth the effort. From time to time, I'll post a few items here and bring them out to York for delivery.
I suppose if I were ever serious about doing a MAJOR thinning out of my collection en masse (i.e., like Chris RBP Trains did before April 2024 York), I might look into a similar arrangement with a dealer. Grzyboski would be my first choice, since I've established such a great relationship with them in Allentown over the years.

Please let us know what happens with this schnabel car with an opening bid of $235 and a buy-it-now price of $699. If it sells or even gets a bid. One week later... no takers... no bids... not at all surprised. So it was just relisted with the same opening bid and buy-it-now option.

I sold and bought trains on eBay for 20+ years but I no longer will because of shipping costs, fees from ebay and too many dishonest sellers and buyers. Its not worth my time to do it. It was a great place at one time to buy and sell but those times have past!!

I've been an Ebay member since 1996! I didn't even realize the internet was around back then! I have a few items I'm going to list as soon as I can find the time. I've had no issues. I was thinking about using Facebook Marketplace but I think there are a lot more knuckleheads on there. Seems every day someone is complaining about getting scammed.
