Wow its been almost 2 years since I have been able to get back in the Hobby. Although I never left... I have found a new house, getting the basement drywalled, and its time to plan the new layout! It will be quite a few months before I can unpack all those train boxes. I still have a ceiling, doors, and floor finishes to put in.
I hope everyone is well and cannot wait to share updates.

It's been really a challenge to start over... But I cannot wait until the basement is done...

This basement was left in total disarray... but it had potential. the previous owner left open drains in the concrete floor! Well its all fixed now....

Jdaddy,
Welcome back. Before you button up the renovation think about:
-putting in a bathroom?
-digging out a trench in the cement floor where you can lay wires to run out from the wall and come up under the layout, avoiding trippers?
-a secondary heavy duty dedicated circuit for the trains is a good idea too…

Hi Craig, 1) Yes I had to forgo the bathroom for a larger train layout. I have 3 bathrooms upstairs and and since its just me living alone another bathroom for the sake of going up a flight of stairs just did not make sense. 2) Yes, I have a main drop from the ceiling to the circuit panel to train layout to cover us for this one. 3) Yes, 2 (20) amp circuits are open from the panel to the layout. one per side of the circuit panel just to balance out the amp draw. Thanks for the insight - appreciate it.

This sure brings back memories of our redo quite a number of years ago. I am having a deja vu sensory experience of construction smells, saw dust, constructive adhesive, drywall dust, and drywall mud.
Are you doing this all yourself?
May we have a sense of dimensions of the layout area?
Do you have a layout configuration already in mind?
