Does a non-permanent, crappy carpet layout count? That’s the only reason I selected “major room” because that’s where the track goes - around the perimeter of the main room - when it is set up. A few scenic structures also inhabit this area, a couple having become practically permanent features rather than being put back in storage. My family puts up with this (and me) very nobly. Excellent ! I will be in the same situation harborbelt70 ... Except for the "permanent features". I have too, josef ... But it is a little Auditorium, dedicated to Music, where there's no room for any layout anywhere there ! So, temporary layout only... OACE T Very nice OACE! Music is one of my other hobbies as well. I have 5 guitars and about 300 vinyl records, mostly jazz and blues.

In our new house down here in Delaware, we had an optional loft put in above the main living space. It spans the entire width of the house (50') and is about 17' deep. I have a small section off to the right where I was able to squeeze in 6' x 10' table. Just enough for 3 loops and some scenery.

Post by ron045 on Mar 9, 2024 at 9:48am When we built the house my wife gave me two spaces. The basement and the garage. Since the garage is for cars and tractors, tat only leaves me the basement.
A garage is for a layout, not cars When we lived in Tampa, I had a layout in the garage - the car was outside on the driveway. An awful story to recall: The car I am referring to was a NEW (my first one) Ford Crown Victoria Station Wagon. The evening of the first day we bought it, I left the rear window down; needless to say, it poured down rain - and flooded the carpeted well where the extra pull-up seats were. Even with that, the layout remained in the garage. Alfred

Yes @adam ! Five guitars is a good start ! And don't forget the amps : equally important... I have way more Hi-Fi gear, Guitars and Amps than Model Trains... ... And absolutely no room to dedicate to any permanent model train layout ! OACE

... And absolutely no room to dedicate to any permanent model train layout ! Oh, sure there is! Just throw a sheet of plywood over all those old tubes and knobs . . .

Fender Blues Jr., Positive Grid Spark 40, a custom made class A and a home brewed class A. I am happy with the guitars I have especially given the amount of time I have to play these days.

Thanks curtis ! We possibly may not have the same age too... 4 amps ? Not so bad, indeed @adam ! How many people I know have Serie L Strats or 60s ES-335 and... Just play on their computer ! Is that serious ? No. OK. We won't derail (no pun intended, OK ?) the subject too much with Audio discussion... If you wish to see what I am building in the Audio / Music field - as an amateur, OK ? No commercial intentions - you can have a look to my small website (French and English language ) : guilhemamplification.jimdofree.com/OACE

My new layout will be in a spare room in a remodeled attic. I am thinking through track plans. In the meantime, I have a 4’ x 4’ 1/4:” project board that is framed with 1” x 2” pine in the family room for my granddaughter. It was originally painted white semi-gloss exterior enamel (that is what I had at the time.) It is resting on milk crates - I am going to make a PVC stand from lefrtover piping from a garden irrigation project. (The idea is to lengthen the legs as she grows.) I made it about twenty five years ago for an HO layout – that never developed. My wife painted it a deep forest green, and I will trim the perimeter surface with woodlands scene wallpaper border. An HO gauge track will be on the border , and half the surface will have O27 track. The other half will be an open area for play and her Brio trains. Alfred
