I will leave it active till March 22, 2024 at 12 am. You can have two locations, for example my main one is on the second floor in a main room and I also have two in the basement.

The new layout I’m building is in a small spare bedroom but keep in mind it’s N scale. I could have shoehorned a very small O gauge layout into the room but decided a moderate sized N scale layout would be more fun and a better use of the limited space.

Mine is in the basement. It was the rec room but took it off my wife's hands.

My wife and I recently downsized but I was fortunate to have a spare bedroom in our new house. I had to downsize my layout also but was able to keep O guage. 10 1/2 x 6 but I'm happy with it.

I have two permanent large layouts in my finished basement and at Christmas I set up a temporary Christmas Layout that lasts from Thanksgiving until New Year.

Mine is relegated to the living room we never used. Not the first choice. Life and circumstances interfered with our plan for a separate (80' X 30') building on our property. I struggle with a satisfactory track plan in my 240 sq. ft. space compared to the 1,500 sq. ft. basement layout we had in our previous home. Then, Mother Nature decided to grace me with an atmospheric river to find leaks in our roof right over the layout area, through and outside wall and soaking the carpet that went undetected during our recent three year long severe drought. Now a nice expensive roof replacement and drywall repairs that cuts into my York funds is in process. Down comes the layout!
Other circumstances have us considering a move again in a year or three so the layout, if I put it up again, will be just a couple loops of track with no scenery to service and test my locomotive fleet.

I have lived in my current house and previous house for a total of 37 years. Both houses had fairly large basements so that is where the trains have been.

I live in the south, so what is a basement? Mine is in a spare room/major room of the house. Not really quite sure what to call it. It is 11' x 20' and on one end of the house off the kitchen. we already have a living room, dining room and a den so no idea what to call it. So now it is known as the train room, with cats allowed, LOL.

When we first moved into my grandparents house the basement was a mess. Once I cleaned it out and I got back into trains and from there I began to build my layout. I started small and built it up over the years.
There was just enough room to get a decent size.

After I had to move to a 65 and over apartment there was no extra room. So being alone now I decided to put it in my living room. It is 14x5'. Not what I had in the house but it keeps me into trains.

For years my layout had been in my mind. It is the best layout you could possibly have imagined; and I did!

The boss/wife wants to move south. Carolina's or Tennessee. Not many basements down that way. So we are at impass so to speak.d Any move must have larger area for the trains and my other hobbies.
