My John Wilkes Weaver engine is a magnificent model train engine IMO far better than anything the MTH or Lionel produced under that name. I marveled at the pristine condition of the engine and tender having apparently no run time as evidenced by the wheels and pickups.
Now I know why. The engine was DOA when I bought it at York last Spring. (that is another story).
My options now are to restore the engine to original operational health via the ERR Cruise Commander (M) with perhaps the Rail Sounds package. Or the more adventurous route of PS3.0
Anyone have any experience with sort of adventure/decision?
If so your insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I would just go the ERR route with sound package.

I would just go the ERR route with sound package. Same here. The sound package is good and the installation relatively straightforward compared to what I know PS3 involves.

PS3 would be a little cheaper but a real pita if you don't have the experience. ERR gets my vote.

They do have test tracks. Could you reach out to the seller and arrange to return it. The TCA does have rules concerning sales to members.

You could have filed a complaint with the TCA, not that it does much good, but if you wanted this long it is a moot point.

Thanks for the hand slap on the TCA footnote to this thread. With the NOS like appearance, it never occurred to me that the reason was DOA. You learn something new in spite of yourself sometimes.

First I would have a professional do the work. However I have been given parameters of difficulty/cost from relatively straightforward replacing boards/smoke unit to modifying the frame etc. assuming the original motor can even accommodate the requirements of PS 3.0. First world problems strike again.

Fortunately no. And the purchase included two 21" aluminum John Wilkes passenger cars.

I have two Williams engines I installed ERR boards in. They both run great and the boards were not difficult to install.
