Very nice Joe. Give us an update on the layout. Alfred Thanks Alfred. I don’t have much to show on the layout right now because I’ve been working on my T-Trak modules. A friend, a fellow Vero Beach Model Railroader, and I are setting them up at the Melbourne show September 7th and I want to have all 5 of my modules finished by then. My layout is running but is just pink foam right now so there’s not much to see or report on. After the Melbourne show I’ll be able to start on scenicking the layout and then I’ll have some progress to report on. I’ll post pictures of the corner module I’m working on right now when the water in the Mod Podge lake is dry and the last few details have been added. I should be ready to show it later this week.

I'll be interested to see your Mod Podge lake...I need to make a water feature for an unrelated project and have been wondering what medium to use. I've used some pourable resin in the past, but had mixed results. Mod Podge is often mentioned as a good alternative, but I don't recall ever seeing it done.

I poured it about an eighth of an inch thick and it will take a few days to dry. On my previous layout I had this lake. I didn’t pour the Mod Podge, I brushed it on to create a glossy finish. I think it was OK but doesn’t have the depth you get with a pour.

I didn’t realize Mod Podge was pourable; something to experiment with when I have a moment.

Joe, I have not used Mod Podge to simulate water, this sounds like a good idea. I wonder if it is lightly tinted with blue food coloring , poured over plexiglass, and back-lighted, if a good result could be achieved. Alfred like a good one

I think it was OK but doesn’t have the depth you get with a pour. This is an interesting product that I have never heard of before - although the fact that it is described as “retro” appeals to me as I apply that description to myself. The only water features I have done, in the absence of an actual layout of any scale, are inside passenger cars where I have used acrylics to simulate dishwater and, in one case, a toilet. Probably the kitchen and bar sinks are better/more decorous examples:*
I think that the product I used was a two part epoxy guaranteed not to discolor/turn cloudy and it didn’t after having some green acrylic tint mixed in. The drawback was that it dried/set very slowly and would run through any seam in the “sinks” I made. Of course this was O scale modeling but at the times I did it it sure felt like N scale working with such very small parts.
* P.S. I’ll put my ridiculous UP “Ladies Lounge” over on the Wordless Photos thread where I won’t have to or be allowed to explain it.

This corner is pretty much done. The water isn’t 100% dry yet but close enough for photos. I may still add some details but it’s presentable for our next show in September.
The only negative to using Mod Podge for water is the slow drying process. I poured this lake about an eighth of an inch deep on Saturday morning. I took these photos this morning, Thursday, 5 days after pouring and there’s still a little while showing. It will completely dry in the next couple of days.
One really good thing about Mod Podge is that it stays where you put it unlike epoxy and some other water materials. I used a brush to apply a thin layer to seal the bottom and sides of the lake but I don’t think it’s necessary. It doesn’t take long to do and dries quickly so I don’t see any reason not to do it.
On a previous layout I created a larger river and stippled a layer on after the pour dried. It looked like swells and gave the impression of moving water. If I can find a picture of it I’ll post it later.

Ugh, picked this up at the local antique mall yesterday AM, an MPC FA-2 from when, 1970's, 1980's? Apparently I've slipped down the slope... Wonder if it runs
