Thanks for the welcome. I hope some members can answer some questions I have about my Lionel 1121 and 1122 switches

I only buy cheap used stuff, and think I got stuck with a pile of junk. Lucky I didn't pay much

I can't seem to get any of them to work by hooking direct to transformer. I am using the DC terminals is that right? some of them click a little, but even after taking the cover off and lubing, still no movement

Thanks for the welcome. I hope some members can answer some questions I have about my Lionel 1121 and 1122 switches I'm not personally familiar with that type of turnout (the railroad term for "switch"), but I have used similar Lionel turnouts. First of all, what DC power? Lionel 3 rail stuff is typically AC powered, and the turnouts are usually powered from the track, and not directly from the transformer (they can be rewired, but by default use track power and are controlled through a three wire connection between the turnout and the control). So, have you connected the turnout to powered track, and connected the three wires between the control and its turnout? Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Of the 6 1121 I have, only one works an it works perfectly ny just connecting it directly to the
dc side of the little Lionel transformer. I am simply testing stuff before attempting to set up a layout. None of the others even try to move, even though with the covers off and lobbed up they move very freely and smoothly. I am thinking all the solenoids are bad. Does that sound right to you guys?? Oh, I have a couple 1122 also, and they don't work either.

Just FTI, I also have a Lionel small 2-4-0 engine that runs fine running the wires from the transformer. I also have a Marx 2–4-4 engine that wouldn't run but I lubed it up and got it running , was just gummed up. Also just hooked it up the same to try.

AFAIK, all Lionel 3 rail turnouts are built to operate on AC (though frankly the solenoid should operate on DC as well, at least for a test). Also, where are you applying power? The turnout has three posts, all of which should be run to the control box, and none of which are to be connected to the transformer. Power comes from the track voltage, so power should be applied to an inner and one outer track rail, and the control should then be able to change the direction. What am I missing here?

Well the one tat works works fine just touching the wires one to the center post then the other to one then the other outer post. Remember, these are not hooked to any track just sitting in my hand. I suppose I could try the ac side of the transformer

I thought the engines run on DC. Am I wrong? If they run on DC. how are the turnouts getting
ac?
