What are your thoughts on them? Running, sound, tmcc, etc.

Dave, I have one but it hasn’t been out of the box yet since I bought it new. Except to look at it but I didn’t run it. It’s a beautifully detailed locomotive.
. I’ll say one thing, K-Line steam engines were the most affordable and detailed made at the time.
I guess that doesn’t help much. I’ll go away now!

Thanks buddy, I have seen a couple of them and they really look nice and they would fit my layout that I have now.

Mine has been on the layout for years. I've had to replace a cherry switch on it but other then that it runs great.

I have a C&O version. I haven’t run it much, but K-Line engines are pretty good.
Judging by threads about K-Line engines, there is often room for improvements with the operating systems. They are often TMCC, but less robust components compared to actual Lionel equipment…

Hey David...........I have two K Line Mikados. They are great, reliable runners; I wouldn't pass one up if its in great shape, with TMCC, rear electric couplers on the tender.

I don't own one but I know someone who found one that was weathered, had a super chuffer and Cruise commander at a local non-train swap meet. It was the best engine he ever bought.

Not too difficult to replace. I bought one from Chuck at Only 3 Rail in Westminster ,Colorado. Over 5 years ago.

Dave, Happy New Year! I had a scale one with TMCC in the B&O livery. Beautiful, great runner, no cruise control though. It hardly needed it, the motor had a flywheel, it was pretty smooth, but it would have been better with cruise. But, at the time of manufacturing, not everything had cruise. The sounds were good, nice whistle. Smoke was a piston driven puffer system, did the job, but primitive compared to the modern fan driven units. It had good pulling power, I was pulling 50 scale boxcars for an hour or so, when I smoked the motor.

Thanks guys and Happy New Year to everybody and thanks for your responses. I did find a nice K-line Union Pacific Mikado in like new condition with a very reasonable price. When I get it I will post pictures. I have had some K-line through out the years and always liked the engines. If needed I can always install one of the cruise controls but most likely I will not. We shall see.
