I have a hankering for the narrow gauge myself - my layout plans include an elevated loop, which might become On30. It became popular with Bachmann's production and would fit with our layouts and also use HO track. I do admire On3 although in the past it's been a niche for super-detail scratchbuilders and pricey brass - I don't know what the On3 landscape is like these days. Hereare some sites to check out - who knows, this rabbit-hole may distract me again! www.backwoodsminiatures.com/0n3kits.htmsanjuancarco.com/Dave

Yeah, the scale/gauge mixture can be fun. I'm aware of folks who have put S gauge trucks under Bachmann On30 cars and run them as S scale. I guess it's all in the proportions of the rolling stock. If you check that Backwoods Miniatures link, they offer gauge conversion kits to switch Bachmann On30 locos to On3...which is the difference between 30"/2'6" gauge compared to 36"/3 ft. gauge. wisemanmodelservices.com/ is a neat site to browse for logging and mining detail stuff. Plans down the road are to put a center aisle in with Mountains and forest with a narrow gauge line in a point to point configuration with road leading to present roadway with tree loads. There will be logging roads and a logging camp with loggers. This all comes about and something I been wanting to do for years. After the war the only work my dad could find was as a logger and stayed at the logging camp for 12 days and 2 days off to come home on. Here's 2 pics of my dad as a logger and all the used were axes and whipsaws. No power tools. 1st pic dad on left then 2nd on right.

Thanks Dave
Appreciate the Links, I just dug out the last few years of my" Narrow Gauge & Shortline GAZETTE " magazines still unopened so i guess i will see what is being offered,
I am still confused by the difference between On3 & On30 , I am told On30 is O scalebodies with HO gauge trucks on HO Gauge track but yet i see that the car bodies are somewhere between O & HO Scale almost like the American Flyer size in the 40's ?
Guess i will figure it out.
Jim, On3 is O scale that runs on 3 foot gauge track. On30 is also O scale but runs on 30 inch gauge track. The engines and cars are all O scale but are smaller than standard gauge equipment because narrow gauge trains are/were smaller in real life. Vehicles, people, buildings, etc would all be O scale. Here is a real world photo showing standard and narrow gauge equipment next to each other. It really shows the difference.
