I am very fortunate to own the CP Holiday train with all the lights. I have the RailKing set and the Premier set. When friends came over tonight to see the layout, one remarked he had never seen those before but loved them. I myself can not remember seeing any for sale recently. Has anyone seen these for sale and do you own either both sets?

You have me itching to see your set. Any photos or video to share?

Here’s my Premier set. I had to leave off the passenger cars that are part of the set to keep it from dominating the circle of track.

I have 6 of the SP Christmas Train cars but not the engine; they are beautiful.
I think that the MTH #4449 engine is not a patch on the real thing:
P.S. I recently looked for any other MTH cars of this kind and drew a blank. But I can't imagine that this will not be re-issued at some point. The LED bulb strings are unique - I live in fear of damaging them when I unbox and re-box the ones I have.

The thickness is so thin, it does not affect the package size. Then when unpacking, pull them out by the cellophane, to not touch or damage little parts like lights. Just one way to save anxiety Bill

Speaking from experience I have made repairs to my boss's set due to him somehow being cursed with bad luck on his set. LOL Usually if the lights fail it is the WIRE NUT INSIDE THAT IS LOOSE!

How interesting - one for the knowledge base. I don't have the nerve to open up any of these cars unless I absolutely have to. I still wish somebody would make LED strings like MTH's closely spaced ones, which could easily have other use than decorating cars and even engines. But I have never asked Evan Designs, for example, whether they could do so.

As it happens, I have a bag of 100 color changing and flashing LEDs, mistakenly sent via slow boat and not required to be returned (hence, free to me!), that I've used for similar purposes. For instance, I wired 18 of them in parallel to illuminate my "renewable energy showcase" billboard: On the layout, the billboard (barely visible edge-on to the lower left) is "powered" by a wind turbine and two solar arrays (actually, the battery seen in the first video, salvaged from a solar spotlight): The only problem I see in daisy-chaining them to make an LED light string would be the very fiddly soldering required. Hmm . . .

I had the RailKing set, but had to sell it among other trains to clear up funds for a new baby. Out of all of the trains I sold, I regret selling that the most. I'm guessing this will never be released again by the new MTH as it's too specialized. I remember when it first came out, it was delayed because they had to come up with a way of packaging in order to protect the lights.
Here's hoping that one day they can be released again. It was such a crowd pleaser.

I have the CP Premier diesel engine along with both sets of boxcars ( the all red set and the red/green set). I love them. They don't come up for sale very often and when they do expect to pay a pretty penny.

For years I had wanted to get these sets, especially after seeing them in person, but kept letting other purchases get in the way. Probably because I figured I’d only be running them at Christmas. But then I realized that with all the trains I have they wouldn’t be running much more often than the Christmas trains.
So now that I want them they are nowhere to be found and I refuse to pay the extortion prices to get them. Hopefully as technology improves maybe they’ll be made again. I will make them a priority next time!

Interestingly MTH Parts still has these available. But alas they do not have the circuit boards, just the light strings. That is interesting although the available light strings do not exactly match my SP cars. I see that there are a couple of different types of circuit boards also for different cars (which are also not available) but presumably they just rectify track power and provide constant voltage. However what that voltage would be baffles me because there are 4 different colors of LEDs on the strings and my understanding has always been that different colors may have different voltage inputs.

Purely a guess, but rather than provide different voltages to different color bulbs through multiple wires in the harness, I'd wager they just used all identical white bulbs (with the matching rectified/regulated voltage) and either painted the bulbs multiple transparent colors, or used transparent colored covers.
