Hello all, I'm in the process of building a suspended layout in my basement due to to many doorways and not enough space. I am at the point where i need to make a yard. I have two loops around the basement. I am using Gargraves flex track. The tracks are 5" apart center to center. I want to get a loop yard with switching and possible dead end yard. Possibility of being able to switch trains from one track to another if possible. Right now i have 11" of space to the wall from center of my track. I have 18' to the wall coming out of my turns in the yard. Will i be able to get a dead end yard in with a loop yard? What switches do i need to accomplish that? I have left and right O54 Gargrave switch i can use. I am not against using Ross switches if need be. Any ideas would be very helpful. YARD 1.pdf (401.54 KB) YARD 2.pdf (369.06 KB)

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you have plenty length, but are tight on width. The photo is my own layout trackplan - I use all 042 curves and switches. I have the passing loop at the top passenger station area connected to the small freight yard ( pink highlighted area). That way I can run a train on the main line using the inside of the passing loop while I’m messing with a train in the freight yard. The outside of the passing loop is used as a switching lead for the yard. The setup doesn’t use a lot of width and my switches are laid right off the curves to save space. If I had the room, I would’ve had the passing loop and yard as straight runs. Make some photocopies or scans of your switches and lay them out to get an idea of the fit. Hope this helps. Dave

I'm having a tough time following what you have and what you want to do. What do you mean loop yard? A loop to turn a train around? You are not turning anything around with 11 or 18 inches. You will not have much of a stub yard either. Maybe one or two extra tracks. 11" of space from wall to center of track. The inside track? Outside track? The middle of both tracks? I made a simple drawing of what I'm trying to interpret you have and want. The O54 to go from one mainline to the other is easy. This picture is in 6 inch grid blocks. More details please.

Thanks for the responses. Sorry if i wasn't clear enough.
I wanted to get a siding in next to my outer track. I have 11" from center of my outer track to the wall. I was doing some homework today on this. I think i will purchase Ross double crossover switch. This will allow me to switch trains from 1 track to another.
I will also purchase O54 RH & LH switches, maybe a curve. This will allow me to create a siding next to my outer track where i can possible park 2 trains.
Hopefully this makes more sense and what i said above will work.
