Here are a few cars I repainted just before Christmas. Two Weaver cars… And one MTH car… I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Happy new year too! Tom

Nice job. Your talent certainly open up more options for creating rolling stock just like you want!

Very nice job indeed. Do you like to strip the old paint off before your re-paint?
If so, what's your go to product to remove paint?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the kind comments. The Rock Island car was my third attempt at this scheme. It took a couple tries to figure out the finish/decal/finish procedure. The blue I was using was giving me shade issues that darkened everywhere on the car except where the decals were applied. Changed paint brands and clear coat and got it right! Very nice job indeed. Do you like to strip the old paint off before your re-paint? If so, what's your go to product to remove paint? VR Ron Thanks Ron. For MTH cars, I usually use 70 to 90% isopropyl alcohol…rubbing alcohol. In the warm weather, it removes the paint in a couple days with some light brush scrubbing. It takes longer in the cool weather, as I have my airtight stripping tanks in my unheated garage. For Weaver cars, I often have to use my dwindling supply of Scalecoat Wash Away stripper. I have about a gallon in a sealed tank that I have been using for a couple years now. It is slowly weakening. I actually strained an entire soup can of paint sludge from the stripper tank recently. Of course the stuff works great, but it is no longer made. Some certain Weaver cars strip well with Isopropyl, but it depends. They seemed to use different paint on different runs of cars. The last few Weaver Cars I stripped, were painted for NASCAR drivers, were a bit tougher and required the Scalecoat stripper. A while ago, I stripped five Weaver shells that were painted for some DJ in the Allentown PA area. A very skimpy paint scheme that came right off with isopropyl. I have some new type stripper on the way from the Netherlands. Hopefully it will be a suitable replacement for the Scalecoat stripper… Tom

Let us know about this new stuff you get. vr Ron

I've used alcohol for every car and engine I wanted to remove paint from. Some just took longer time and a soft toothbrush and toothpick. I've tried some paint remover made for plastics and even after a soapy wash, created a problem. So alcohol 91%, has been my only go to. I've done 3 engines and 17 rolling stock that I wanted and either couldn't find or weren't made. I have purchased some messed up weathering cars which took longer because of the added chalk, weathering paint that were even some oil paints that I resorted to Brake Fluid to remove, but finished with alcohol. 4dogsinjersey is becoming a master at this.
