After Mike Wolf broke up his company and downsized. He retained the command system electronics and a much smaller producer was formed. That producer eliminated the catalog in favor of custom runs and daily announcements of items available. What about tinplate.
i know that the agreement to produce tinplate using Lionel logos has expired MTH had a thriving tinplate business. I wonder who has the tooling and why they don’t start producing some product. After seeing the Standard Group layout I think there is sufficient interest.

Good question, as most know MTH made the Lionel remakes for Lionel, And while at it made basically the same item except different motors and put proto sound in most of them. The standard gauge follow is strong still. there is a couple of forums on Facebook for standard gauge. I feel the best one thou is " Prewar American Flyer and Lionel Standard Gauge.

In the waning days, MTH’s tinplate business seemed to have devolved into just reissues of product in “new” paint schemes. There was very little, if any, truly new stuff. After getting burned on a number of cancelled preorders, I kinda lost interest.
It would be interesting to see them offer something in tinplate, if for no better reason than to gauge just how much interest remains. When Wolf folded the business, there was a lot of NOS out there, but now, years later, that’s pretty much dried up. I picked up a few pieces/sets figuring that once gone, there would be little chance of new runs. At this point, I wouldn’t expect them to develop and release new designs; I think that ship has sadly sailed.

There is another group I belong to, that one of the members makes some Standard Gauge trains ( groups.io/g/sgma/topics ) He's made a couple of engines even. I believe one he made was a GG1. I think he will make x number and that is it though. Last item I know of him making was some tank cars.

Isn’t that what MTH is doing now. reissues of product but in “new” paint schemes unless they have invested in new tooling that I’m not aware of.

It could be, but I'm not really paying attention to any new production by any of the manufacturers. I've no interest in yet another faux Lionel 400, this time in a Canadian National or Seaboard scheme. I seem to remember he (Mike Wolf) has the rights to the Ives stuff, so if he was to make some O-gauge Ives electrics that are on the tough-to-find list, he might get my attention. Prewar American Flyers rights are owned by Lionel. Standard-gauge, Lionel O-gauge tinplate, I have what I want.

I've never had any interest in the re-issues. What I would love to see (but I'm sure I never will) would be for someone to set up tooling to match the shape and size of American Flyer 9 1/2" cars such as the Great Northern and make new litho sheets to turn out cars matching any of the Atlas Billboard offerings such as or If they made any of the Atlas reefers in lithographed tinplate I know it would make a serious dent in my supply of train money.

The Flynns made some really nice lithographed stuff in their "New Marx" line; I wish MTH would have followed suit with a bit more expansion of their O-gauge tinplate, specifically with regards to lithography.
