As the title of this thread implies, I've been noticing in recent weeks that Trainz isn't shy about jumping into the price frenzy on eBay. A Vision Line Hudson for $3K... A Vision Line Big Boy for $4K... and just this morning I saw a new listing for an MTH Schnabel car listed for $305.
I expect these kinds of prices from the typical eBay shysters -- but it's a bit disheartening to see some of the more reputable outfits jumping into the fray with them. Those MTH Schnabel cars topped out around $125-$130 MSRP back in the their day, and I believe MTH still owns the tooling for them. So it's only a matter of time before new ones are produced at a fraction of the current eBay prices. But until that happens, buyers are paying some significant premiums if they want them NOW.

Trainz has been doing this awhile If you watch items they get progressively get cheaper if no bids I watche a 4 car set of MU's for awhile They originally posted them at 575 A week later they went to 500 Then 425 etc etc I eventually got them for 300 There isnt anything wrong with that strategy If theu sell at a higher price Great If not somebody gets a bargain Ebay charges more than 20% in fees and reports it to the govt as income so guess who winds up paying more

I was looking for some Lionel 2 bay hoppers this past summer and when I checked Trainz they had a bunch but the prices were ok, not great so I waited. So last week after following them since august they posted them for in the 25.00 range. Plus shipping and tax. Average $27.00 per car. I picked up the four I wanted for $91.00 in new and like new. Sometimes it pays to wait.

They do the same thing many other sellers do and, as noted by some of the other posts, they have done this for some time. My experience with some of their pricing has been the same as others have stated. My most recent purchase was sometime last year. The original listing price didn't get any bids so they dropped the price and relisted. This went on for several iterations until they finally picked a price I was comfortable with - I made the bid and got the item.

They have been on eBay a while. Oh... I realize they've been around for quite some time. And they pre-date the YouTube generation, although one of them has been promoting Trainz since he started posting videos. But only recently have I seen Trainz start pricing their wares in the stratosphere.

A couple of experiences I have had with Trainz. Their website is always cheaper than ebay. There is always a coupon out there. Right now tjtx will save you $10. bluelinec4 is correct that the price comes down the longer they remain online. However, that proposition could be risky if you REALLY want something. Sometimes I will leave stuff in my cart and a few hours later I'll get an email, "Did you forget something?" with some kind of small token offer. For secondary market stuff they are the first place I look. Ron

I'm not, They have been doing this for a while. I honestly feel they have changed there business plan. They still will take back/fix items they have sold, but there prices have gone up.
In fact I feel the prices for used trains has gone up and some of it is just plain stupid high.

Rather find what they will offer then add some and sell it on Forums like this or EBay. You sell faster and cut out the middle man that makes the profits and make a friend in the buyer.

I just did a train show last weekend, I still took a lost but after paying for a motel room, food, gas, and the 3 tables, I feel what I sold I still came out ahead of what I would of gotten from Trainz or any other reseller of trains.

If Trainz can sell it, so can you.
