This week, for no other reason that I am thinking about it in connection with something else I mention below, and without expecting anyone else to follow this theme, I have stuck with the same railroad as last week, the Santa Fe. This was the main railroad my father modelled and the first one I did when I got back into the hobby.
I don’t have a lot of Santa Fe stuff and most of it is crammed into the Santa Fe Corner of my display: These two Lionel engines are at opposite ends of my running time in that the AC6000 has probably been run more than any other engine (because I have learned to control its sounds realistically) while the Legacy E8 set is a kind of prairie cruise liner that I don’t put on the tracks very often despite its impressive appearance: The E8 set is from the generation of Legacy A-A sets that has one powered and one dummy engine. The AC6000 is actually much more impressive in the sound (and smoke) department. I'm sure that this is a fantasy Warbonnet scheme but I like it. At the end of this month, I intend to add to the “Founder’s Favorites” thread because Brian Vaill was a big fan of Santa Fe although I think that he had much more MTH than Lionel – particularly their fine plated/metallic models of fairly recent vintage. My Lionel stuff was mostly acquired long before those came out. However, I do have one example of high shine and indeed reflective rolling stock and I’ll explain that when my contribution to the other thread is ready.

I recognize that as the astonishingly photo-realistic background to your layout! A great example of perspective too.

Sharing my NYC engines today. My favorite Williams engine, this NYC Pacific is very detailed and runs great. MTH PS1 Steam Switcher. Very heavy, pulls very well and, well, I just really like it Finally, the MTH RailKing PS3 RS-3 NYC. I love switchers and the RS3 is my favorite diesel switcher.

Maybe CountryJoe will show us an example of his.

A battered Lionel 2036 from 1950 was added to the roster last week. I needed a mate for a 6466W that's been sitting alone in the spare tender box for a couple years, and found the 2036 at the local indoor flea market: It's headed for the roundhouse this winter for an end-to-end tear-down as it has a number of problems, chief among them an inability of the drivers to track properly (not to mention a fair amount of steel-wool fibers ingested into the Magnetraction at some point). The tender is in decent shape, but could stand a rewire. It'll probably fall somewhere near the bottom of the project pile and have to work its way up...so many projects.

Here's mine for this week. Looks like a rather nice, subtle weathering job.

You guys who collect and repair these oldies are really admirable. I think that I have patience for a lot of things but ‘Magnetraction ingestion’ is not one of them - although in a couple of weeks I will show one of the only two Magnetraction engine sets that I have.
