I made a bid and had a pop-up come up telling me if I win that it will deduct immediately from my payment on file. I'm never sure how I want to pay for something. Till I'm ready to pay. Not automatically. when did the start this. I just bought something from Trainz a week ago and I had the choice.

Not automatically. when did the start this. I just bought something from Trainz a week ago and I had the choice. This went into effect several months ago. At first it was limited to best offers. It has now evidently expanded to auctions as well. It is clear that Ebay wants to eliminate non paying bidders as well as assuring that Ebay gets their money instantly.

I just talked to ebay. And it's when the seller request immediate payment. I just told eBay seeing I do not know before bidding, I will just cancel my bid when this happens. Because I never know how I'm planning to pay for something or how. This is wrong.

It actually benefits the seller also. Rather then waiting for the buyer at his leisure to pay or not to pay. My neighbor has said she now gets her money faster also since she pays me when I have her sell items for me I get my money faster.

traincollector, Thanks for the heads up. Although I have not used e-Bay in years, I have been contemplating using it to purchase some post war track. Do you then have to have credit card info on file, or a PayPal account on file? It's been a long time, and I've noticed some other changes that make it more difficult to do bidding - unless I am not useing the correct view. Alfred

I too was caught by surprise when an item that I accepted a reduced offer on, was paid immediately without the chance to select a payment method.
That was a couple months ago and it hasn’t happened since. I try to read the fine print of the auction in question and avoid the situation, but I really didn’t see it coming…
