I remember when it was 9 issues. I understand the advertising isn't there. But I believe since they have all but ended print, maybe they need to find a way to convince them that there the best way to get there new custmerrs. Don't have any idea how they can do it. I would hate to see them end, maybe they need to combine ctt & modle railroader like it was back many, many moons ago.

This was announced at York in October. CTT started out in 1987 as 4 issues and now 36 years later is back to 4 issues. I have been a subscriber since the very first issue and have always been a fan.

ALL magazines are contracting. They make much of their money from advertisers who have been turning more towards lower cost internet marketing. ROI is the key. Its a different age right now and the magazine seems to slowly be going the way of the mall. Train shows with the exception of Greenbergs and Allentown have all gone away up here. Judging by those shows, I'd say the hobby is still thriving but becoming more specialized and changing quite a bit with the times. Online buying is now more convenient, efficient and less expensive than retail.. I still see a place for in person retail purchases with food, jewelry, clothing, liquors, prescription, art, and specialty items but the hobby market looks as though it has been more affected than most. One thing that we cannot replace is the meeting of friends at the shows and this aspect will keep things going for our generation.

I get CTT in digital delivery, but for $5 more per year, I get a copy in the mail. I give it to my friend Bob,who no longer can afford to subscribe.

Yes but try to get a paper subscription by it self, you can't which makes no sense. If you can get it with digital why not on it's own. I prefer paper as not fond of soaking these old bones in the tub with a electronic devise, water seems to destroy them if they slip out of your hand beside kinda hard to bring my desktop into the tub

The slow death of printed media. My local area was once dotted with paper mills supplying every newspaper and magazine on the continent, now all gone. Finding something that's a decent hook is tough for print - headlines are old and all over the internet by the time the print media catches up.
For example, my local rag covered our local train show in a small article on the inside pages the day after the show. Lo and behold, SIX WEEKS later the train show was a big splash all over the front page. Slow news day I guess...
