I’m pretty much done with any major purchases, the last was a Legacy NYC Atlantic I got from Model Trains in MD. It runs just fine. Two of my other steamers are the PRR Legacy H10’s. They run fine as well but I’m still trying to find someone to install the shims in the gear box so I’m careful about running them too much.

Pat from Harmon Yards in North Carolina may be able to help. Also gunrunnerjohn has mentioned installing shims as well and he is somewhere near Lansdale. Both are well known and frequent several forums.

Do not pre order but wait for the Product to be delivered and then make your decision. You may miss out on some but that's ok for me. I don't like the BTO system because all that did was take the problems from Lionel and passed it on to the buyer. 25 years ago you could not get away with this way of doing business. Our political class is letting us down from both sides of the political aisle. And yet we keep electing the same Morons year after year.

Sighhhh….. For me it goes beyond quality issues from any importer. Some would say that I have an abundance of model trains. (I refuse to admit as such).
Several years ago I was wondering if there was any train model I could possibly want that I didn’t already have. Then the next catalog would be released. “Oh my God! That’s so cool!” I would exclaim. Next catalog gets released, and the same excitement would overwhelm me. Then as some treasures arrived there were reports of problems. Some I was able to take care of, some yet to be serviced. It kind of tempered my enthusiasm. And I wonder what surprises are waiting for me in those trains that haven’t seen the light of day yet. I’m not too concerned with color variations within reason, it’s mechanical, electronic and build and operating quality I look for.
So now I’m not only more selective but wanting to wait until items are shipped to stores and reviews are published. If I can still get them, great, if not I have plenty of trains to play with. This worked well for the Lionel Legacy NYC 4-8-4 Niagara, a great running locomotive. Locos that I missed out on or might miss were the Lionel Santa Fe Santa Fe 3700 and 2900 series Northerns and the Union Pacific “Katy Heritage” SD70ACe.
The Lionel Strasburg Decapod #90 was the exception since I’ve been wanting this done by someone forever, with little chance anyone else would build it after this anytime soon. In my sights are the 3Rd Rail Amtrak ALC-44 / SC-44 Siemens Charger locomotives. No other way to get them other than preorders. They only build to order and no hobby shop stocks them. I’ve been holding out to see if either Lionel with Legacy or MTH with DCS would build them as the 3Rd Rail models only come with TMCC control, which isn’t a deal breaker.
But that’s just me. My name is Traindiesel and I am addicted to this hobby!!

Both are well known and frequent several forums. I’m familiar with both of them. Pat at Harmon Yards wants $200 each plus shipping both ways. I don’t really want to ship the engines if I can help it. Even if insured if they get lost they are impossible to find. As for GRJ I don’t care to deal with him.
