After posting what I thought was a helpful message on another forum I was deleted/banned/whatever for essentially being a s_ _ t stirrer (my words) which was the furthest thing I had in mind when I made the post.
I hold no acrimony or ill well toward those other folks, it is their sandbox and their rules. It was my lack of understanding of the absolutes and nuances of their TOS which made my tenure there shall I say tenuous and now non existent.
In bringing this to your attention I do not ask for sympathy or support or negative comments about the aforementioned forum, but ask you to consider the consequences of your online statements and reactions to the posts and opinions of others whether it be on this forum or other social media platforms.
I know that I am speaking to the choir here but keep your children, grand, and great grandchildren in your thoughts as you read this.
As a mature adult, I would have not expected my reaction to be as pronounced, in the form of melancholy, self doubt, rejection of sorts, and a general neurotic malaise of not knowing what I did that was so wrong in a post that was meant and intended to be positive and forward thinking in a hopeful way. In a word I was bummed. Never having been banned before in Boston or anywhere else this reaction is surprising and cautionary to me.
They say you never know a person until you walk a mile in their shoes. Well I walked maybe a few hundred feet in the land of social media and it can be disheartening at the very least, and devastating at worst.
I can only imagine youngsters and young adults being subjected to a barrage of reactions to their innocent, playful, or well intentioned posts on social media which assault their intelligence, beauty, choice of dress or hairstyle let alone race, color or religion and even their very reason for existence without the anchor that experience and maturity hopefully brings to an adult.
There is a followup post to this one entitled 'My Christmas Present to Lionel' in which I recreate my deleted post which resulted in my being banned elsewhere. You be the judge.
I ask only one consideration should you read this followup post. Please do not engage in negative comments about the other forum as it IMO demeans the high standards of this forum and dishonors my intent in posting this message; which intention was and is to reset the IMO imperiled relationship/conversation between Lionel and its' collector/enthusiast base in which many of us reside.
Thank you for your consideration and thoughtful replies if any.
