. . . or, you could just put up catch fences: Hey Steve, how'd you make that edging on the platform? Almost looks like you split pool-noodles and snapped them over the edge. A nice neat presentation...

Hey Steve, how'd you make that edging on the platform? Almost looks like you split pool-noodles and snapped them over the edge. A nice neat presentation... Easy-peasy -- I just used off-the-shelf foam pipe insulation, available in any hardware/home improvement store in packages and single lengths. They're pre-split, hold nicely to a half-inch to inch thick layout edge (I used half inch extruded foam panels over half inch OSB base, but anything of a similar thickness should work), and can be removed and restored/relocated as desired. The only slightly tricky part was getting it to hold tightly through the rather sharp corners on my layout, but as long as you position any joint as far as you can away from the bend, it seems to work without additional fastenings (and at need you could angle or kerf cut on the inside radius to get it to hold the curve or angle). I've also noticed there are some minor color variations between lots, so sourcing all you need at one time is probably a good idea.

The foam tubes are also great to put on the edge of your computer table. Great way to rest your wrists while typing etc. I've used them for years after I first saw them used for race car roll bar padding. At a racing trade show, I got a half dozen for a buck a piece. They even come in different colors for those who wish to get creative. Bill
