What a Thanksgiving! My daughter (From Rochester NY) and her husband along with four children (16,14,12 and 9) are staying with us till Sunday (came Tuesday). My Son, his wife and Curtis III (2), came up from Woodbridge VA. My older brother and his wife came over and my older sister came for desert. What a feast. Turkey, Sweet Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes, Succotash (corn and my favorite LIMA BEANS), Cranberry sauce and relish, Gravy, Stuffing, Rolls and I know I still am forgetting something. We had dessert a little later as we all had to wait for things to settle in our overstuffed stomachs. Deserts were Pumpkin and apple pies with or without ice cream and cool whip. Cranberry cake ( my grandsons favorite). Was fantastic having family. Only my younger sister from MO did not make it. NOW LET ME TELL YOU THE BEST PART!!! In the morning the four older grandchildren went upstairs to the train room. I then showed them all the boxes under the train table. MTH Premier and Rail King, Lionel, Atlas, Weaver, Menards and some others. I then announced that for twenty dollars each child they could carry all those boxes down all the way to the basement and then stack them on the shelves I made for them and PUT THEM IN NUMERICAL ORDER BY MANUFACTURER. After three hours they had tehm down to the basement. Today they go back to finish putting them on the shelves. Only got the MTH Rail King done and there are way more Premier let alone Atlas and Lionel (not much of the last two compared to MTH). What a blessing to have them do it. Worth way more than the $80 it is costing me. My legs and back were sore after watching them. I just sat and watched. FANTASTIC THANKSGIVING as I am SOOOOO THANKFUL! God Bless Everyone and may the Trains be running and smiles and memories be made in the coming weeks and months! HAHA! I love it Curtis! Put ‘em to work!

Actually they should have paid Curtis for the exercise they got at home, rather then having to pay a Gym. I remember a time when me and the wife would hit the gym the days afterwards compared to once a week workout. Seriously, I bet they also had fun in doing this.

My wife and I are recovering from severe colds. We had planned to go to my sisters but cancelled. We did drop off turkey tenderloins, stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce, gravy and a large pumpkin pie. We held back jus enough for our dinner which was just fine except we did miss the pumpkin pie. All in all a nice time after all.

Just 8 of us this year for Thanksgiving. Facetimed/Zoom Called 4 more and 2 more by phone. Hope to have all 14 next year. Just as much cooking either way. We had a very nice Thanksgiving. Today we are putting away all the Thanksgiving decor and bringing out th Christmas stuff. I'm looking forward to getting a train around the tree. It's the Christmas Decorating highlight in my opinion.

It's the Christmas Decorating highlight in my opinion. Our first gathering of the clan since covid. What a GREAT time. OK - dispatch a pick up for the empty, the party's over. Yes, I think it was full when left on our siding. Click on the photo to enlarge our Thanksgiving meal.Bill

Did any of the manufacturers ever make a gravy tank car? That could have been neat/handy.

Did any of the manufacturers ever make a gravy tank car? That could have been neat/handy. That would be a hit for a Thanksgiving consist. A car hauling Turkeys with Gobble, Gobble sound. A gravy tank car, a mashed potato car, and a flatcar with a Thanksgiving table, Pilgrims and Indians, etc. Now I would run and display that as a center piece also. Great idea!

We need a pie caboose as well.

Back in the late 19th century there was a rather well-to-do gent who put together a train on his very long dinner table which pulled cars containing food and would stop at each guest's setting so they could serve themselves. I'm almost certain he had an open hopper full of gravy with a gravy ladle. I know I have a picture of this setup in one of my books but, at the moment I can't recall which book it might be (one of about 3000 or so ). I'll see if I can rummage around and find the book. If I can, I'll take a picture of the book page and post it. If the focus is just on turkey then you need to go on the hunt for one of the QSI issued cattle/pig/chicken cars with sounds. One of the sound systems was that of gobbling turkeys.

Ours has been the same for 12 years. My wife and I spend Thanksgiving with our 2 dogs. Which is great, but lonely sometimes. I miss my deceased relatives who always made the effort to bring the family together for Holidays. The current crop is either too old and unable to travel or organize, while the younger ones are a$$holes. My in-laws are either a$$holes or have no back bone.
My favorite relatives were on my mother's side. Their father was my mother's older brother. I always had a good time. All are passed on except one cousin. My cousins were teenagers in the late fifties and early sixties. (I was born in 57) I miss all of them.

Funniest part was them checking to see how many steps they took for the day. So YOU are correct!

Some people from my church took me to Denny's, I had my doubts, but the food was fantastic.

Fantastic Thanksgiving Day recollections - thanks for recounting them here. Our Thanksgiving was great - the whole family, all the traditional food, the family walk, and the fond memories. Alfred

Belated Thanksgiving get-together at our house yesterday, with all our local children/grandchildren in attendance! My wife and I survived the preparations, festivities and post-celebration cleanup with reasonable good grace, and enough of my layout behaved itself enough that I didn't let down the little ones. Even had a chance to let the middle grandson take the controls on the test layout, and he seemed to enjoy that a lot. Note to self: separating the grandsons seems to work a lot better than having them all together -- less rough-housing and sibling rivalry, more attention for the trains!
