Had my first surgery done on my eyes this past Wednesday and thanks to some of the guys here it was as easy as they stated. My left eye was done this time, a lens was installed and cataracts were removed. My right eye will be done hopefully in another month or so. The change so far is just amazing. Thank you Brian, Joe and others for encouraging me to get this done.
Thanks guys,
Dave

I’m getting close to needing cataract surgery but one of the issues I have is being near sighted I have always enjoyed reading without glasses, having good intermediate distance vision without glasses and even decent distance vision without glasses. So far during my last three visits to my ophthalmologist they were able to correct my vision with very little change to my prescription. I’ve been advised to hold off filling the eyeglass prescription since it may be a waste of money considering I may in fact need the surgery within a couple of years.
So, does anyone know if it is possible to maintain all the current vision benefits I have with cataract surgery.

Well, as I understand it, yes, your vision *can* be adjusted just about anywhere across the far-sighted/near-sighted spectrum, but with a few caveats. Primarily, no matter to what the at-rest focus distance is set, as we age our ability to *change* focus degrades (which is why bifocals and trifocals were developed!), and this cannot be surgically corrected. The best they can do is set the resting focal depth in each eye to a different length, and rely on your brain to sort out which to primarily use. So, I think this is a matter to discuss with your surgeon, but I'd be surprised if they can't offer you an option that meets your needs and preferences. Good luck!

I had my left eye done when I was 55. I had a traumatic cataract from a rail accident I was in a couple years before.
The surgery was done by robotics. I was awake but slightly sedated for the procedure. Didn’t feel a thing. I need to use reading glasses now, but that is a minor thing.
Glad your surgery went well!

Dave, It is good to know that the eye surgery was successful, and that you are pleased. I hope the turkey does not look too lop-sided on Thanksgiving Day. Alfred

I’m glad you had it done and all is well, Dave. Getting the first eye operated on is pretty scary but the second is a piece of cake since you know what to expect.

Your right Joe the other eye will be a piece of cake. The left eye was the worst and the improvement is just amazing. Thanks for your support.
