Sometimes one needs to look at the simple things in a problem, rather then I did and spend all day checking each wire, connections with OHM and Voltage. Separating wires, checking voltage and for shorts. Finally, I checked the TIU for a blown fuse, just when I was ready to give up and re-wire everything. It was a blown 20 amp fuse of which I carried spares just for this. Getting to what the problem was. After wiring tracks, I started running and checking my Lionel engines first, from TMCC to Legacy. All ran and worked as they were suppose to. But, today I wanted to check my MTH engines. When I applied power, it started right up, sat there, didn't take off and no control. That started my search to the problem, why did it start up as soon as I applied power rather then sit there and wait for command from my handhold controller. After spending a good part of the day doing above and saying I need a break and a cup of coffee to think what I missed. Then half way through it hit me, check the "Read" button and see if my handhold communicates with the TIU. It didn't. Checked connection at TIU then took apart to check the fuse. YUP!, Blown fuse, replaced, check Read button, communicating looking for engine, etc. All my MTH have now been checked as well as the Legacy and TMCCs engines. Hope this maybe helpful for some in the future. I

I never noticed the button on the lower left corner of the remote. I will give it a try next time I set up my DCC test track.
Was there any indication the fuse was blown or was it found through deductive testing?

Glad you stuck with it and found the problem! The only problem is, the solution is always the last thing you check!

But, it was the first thing I should have done after setting up, check to see if my remote was communicating with the TIU and TIU was sending signal to track. READ button will give you lots of information. Check it out next time.

Walt, I am glad that it resulted in the simple fix, and that you did not have to find the blown fuse after rewiring. Alfred

This is very useful to know, Walter, although I really dread the day when my remaining TIU starts acting up or failing to work. Where did you get the fuse for it? Is it an MTH part or some kind of generic fuse?

Is it an MTH part or some kind of generic fuse? Its an automotive fuse you can find at WalMart and any auto store. I knew this after reading booklet and had some in my toolbox and set several in original box if I ever needed them.
