I received the two I ordered last week and I am impressed with the quality and of course the price. When announced the morons who know nothing on other forums mostly on the FB Groups criticized Menards for being and thinking the paint scheme supported the LGBTQ. I am amazed some people are so stupid and they let their biased thinking to get in the way talking about the subject at hand. Sorry for the rant but I don't like stupid people. Back to the subject, this car just may be the best Menards have ever built. Diecast trucks and couplers makes the car first rate. I can see other hopper road names will becoming in the future. Nice pickup, Dave! I believe the paint scheme was called the “Lifesaver” scheme on the tank car that is/was actually prototypical.
If they construct their rolling stock as you described going forward I’ll be inclined to buy more of them.

I have a couple of Menards hoppers and they have 12 roof doors that all open too. Great detail.

I saw that car - nice acquisition! I have a few of the other Menards hoppers that I modified to solve truck clearance problems, but I like their line for general price and availability. Wow - that’s quite the ignorance factor from those that don’t know any better. The rainbow hopper was part of a series of billboard cars that CNR painted in the ‘60s to promote freight business. The rainbow scheme was actually on a cylindrical hopper, and only one side was painted. There were boxcars too. Here’s a good potted history of the cars. tracksidetreasure.blogspot.com/2015/04/cn-billboard-cars-1971.html?m=1Dave

Lionel made one several years ago that I have.
