I admit that this week’s posting is a little selfish. I still have my (pre-) Christmas train on the track as its Christmas lights are very cheerful although soon enough I’ll have to take up the carpet track circuit. Meanwhile this side view, which is as much a top view, tries to capture the light show: On the theory that a (moving) picture is worth several thousand words I’ve put together 30 seconds of this train running towards the diagonal section of the circuit. If the smoke output appears a little wispy it’s because the track voltage is inconsistent and poor. When new and on a more stable power input the Niagara engine produced huge plumes of stack, whistle and pop-off valve smoke – to say nothing of the water scoop outlets on the tender (not shown in this video):Maybe Daylight colors are the new Christmas colors for me. A GGD SP dome car I have modified actually glows away like a Christmas tree when powered up because of the extra lights as well as colors put inside. I have posted about this car before but this set of still photos gives some idea of the original and heavily modified interior – at 45 passengers the most I have ever put inside a single car.

A comparison of Standard gauge and appropriately scaled diecast: An MTH reproduction 9E versus a Franklin Mint 1/24 Mercedes 300SL. This looks about right to me (although people often refer to "standard" gauge as being 1/32).

I'll join healey36 this morning - a grossly undersized 1904 O gauge clockwork locomotive and an inappropriately scaled (for O gauge anyway) clockwork Model T Ford - both courtesy of Bing

Not a train this time, but since the first post was a Christmas train, I thought I would post our tree. We have an artificial tree that stays up all year in our formal living room. We don't use our formal living room for anything else, so we figured what the heck, leave the tree up. My daughter decided it was time to turn it on this evening.

This is a better photo of this caboose. I swapped bodies with another caboose so my A&JB caboose is lit and has ladders and toolboxes. Much better.

harborbelt70, very cheery cars. That is a good-sized passenger manifest. What is the full capacity? Alfred It's six cars and there may have been another two car set MTH offered but if so I did not opt for it. Back in 2018 when these cars were produced MTH made a lot of cars and engines with these LED strings but one look at them reveals how fragile they are.
In fact the capacity of this consist is limited by the pulling power of the Niagara. The MTH cars are plastic and very light but I once tried the Niagara with some NYC Superliner aluminum cars and spun a traction tire off the engine. This is a known issue with these otherwise fine engines and there is no way I am trying to put better diameter MTH traction tires on it. The reason is the screws holding the driving wheels on had thread lock glue put on them at the factory and removing it is just beyond my capability.
