Good evening,
I am a new member, just having been authorized to participate tonight on the Forum. I model a fair amount of Williams engines, primarily produced prior to becoming Williams by Bachmann. I purchased an SD90 at a swap meet last summer. Like most Williams engines, it runs great. However, I discovered that it was missing a spur gear and accompanying spur pin on one of the powered trucks I had looked for replacement parts over the year, searching Ebay and Googling "Williams Spur Gear." No luck. This morning, I contacted Williams by Bachmann customer service. When asked about the availability of a replacement spur gear, the employee indicated that individual parts like this are unavailable. She indicated that a spur gear is included in a powered truck, available for about $35 plus shipping. I went ahead and ordered it. Does anyone have a good source of individual Williams parts? Fortunately, there has been little need for replacement parts to this time.
My other question/comment is also on powered Williams engines. I like to run lengthy trains that look more prototypical with multiple units. I would like to run multiple powered Williams units together, but don't want to risk damaging the engines if they run at slightly different speeds. I have read about modifications that can be done on powered units to make them compatible when running in tandem, but am reluctant to change the wiring, based on the limited availability of Williams parts. Any suggestions would be welcome. I run a few dummy units, but have found very few dummy SD90's.
Thank you for indulging the comments of a new member! I enjoy reading the wealth of information that O gauge modelers are willing to share.
