Just a reminder that my favorite model train event; the Allentown "First Frost" Meet will be held this weekend Nov 11th and Nov 12th. It opens at 9AM and is open to the public. Its a large and crowded show with 625 tables. Its likely a different audience than at York with many different sellers. Admission is $10 at the door. Unfortunately, I am scheduled for a Rezum procedure tomorrow and won't be able to attend. Have fun everyone.

Great show indeed. When I went to York I was only going to find a Lionel tunnel. No tunnel but plenty of trouble.
In the meantime I found the tunnel which I am picking up in Allentown. I hope I don't find any trouble this time around!

I really miss going to this show. It was a great day out to see trains and friends, the Farmer's market there and the November model train open houses in the area on the way home.
I don't miss having to wake up at 4am to join the pre show breakfast group but I do miss being there for it. Once I got on the road I was excited to be going. Maybe someday I'll get back!

Allentown has always been a favorite show of mine since the 1970’s. And now that I’ve had a booth there in recent years, the show has taken on an entirely new dimension. I keep saying I have one more show of “collection thinning” to do, but I always seem to find more goodies for all budgets to bring to the next show!!!
So once again, I’ll have 3 tables set up in a U-shaped booth — this time right across the big aisle near the train races and club layout displays. So be sure to stop by and say hello.
I’m still organizing everything I plan to bring, but I’m hoping to post a preview listing over on the OGF buy/sell sub-forum tonight yet. Stay tuned… and be sure to check it out.

Both shows look like fun. Too bad I'm nowhere near there.

I wanted to go, but we have relatives coming this week. Try for the Spring show I suppose… Tom Tell everyone that you are going to the convenience store for milk and bread then make a run for it. They may not notice you were gone for hours!

I usually excuse myself, saying I'm going out to buy a bottle of Malbec at the package goods store. When I come back four hours later, I explain that the first 37 stores I went to didn't have it.

Sorry I haven't been able to post a FOR-SALE listing here. It would have been enormous!!!
But I've been busy organizing everything I'm bringing to Allentown... and will be packing the van Friday morning. So you'll have to visit Allentown to see everything!!! Hope to see some of you there. Weather looks great too. You will NOT be disappointed. That is for certain.

Went to Allentown to pick up the Lionel Polar Express tunnels from Joe Grzyboski that I did not find at York. In addition to an Angela Trotta trolly that I bought from Joe, I was otherwise disciplined which is not usual for me.
While tempted by a Weaver's Crusader set I resisted the urge and left w/o it as for my tastes the cars lack distinction other than they are shiny. Regardless if the engine had the factory box and packaging I would have ignored my misgivings.
The show appeared to be well attended, however I did not see a lot of 'big ticket' product going out the doors, at least from 8:00 until noon.
As a point of reference the show resembled a mix of the Orange Hall and the Memorial Halls at York with a definite leaning towards the member halls in terms of items offered, era of the offerings and condition (used versus new). There was a smattering of standard gauge/tinplate.
It is tough to gauge the overall attendance as there is a farmer's market which pulls in a lot of folks for edible goods and the parking lot is jammed. As far as I can tell, there was no line to enter after about 9:30. Still in many instances I felt like a salmon swimming upstream in many of the aisles.
As I was leaving for the day what I took for a rather large youngish Amish family from the farmer's market was making their way to the show in a line that resembled Quail in the most endearing and adorable way. The young children were speaking enthusiastically about trains. Which seemed odd to me based upon my understanding of the Amish feelings about electricity. Even so I suppose gas generators could do the job.
Even given the added costs for food and lodging the Friday evening before, for someone as far south as the Baltimore /Washington area this show and York are the two must go to shows as long as you are breathing , ambulatory and still enjoy trains.
