I didn't answer the question, because I didn't want to color the poll with a "no" vote without explaining. Bottom line... I think it's difficult to COST-JUSTIFY York these days in terms of "worth", because worth means different things to different people. It's somewhat like asking someone,"Is it worth buying a Lexus vs. a Toyota?" Both cars get you where you wanna go. It's a matter of which one do you PREFER to drive.
So now that [1] SO MANY opportunities exist to purchase toy trains throughout the entire year, and [2] travel and meal expenses for York need to be factored into the equation... the math just doesn't work out anymore for me. Yet I still attend York for a day -- just for the social experience. I can no longer "cost-justify" it in terms of product acquisitions, but it's still a fun experience nonetheless.

For me it is a 90 minute drive one way. A one night stay in a relatively cheap hotel, and modest meals. The overhead is not prohibitive for me particularly when I factor in what it would cost to ship what I bought. I still see train items at York that I see nowhere else. What I purchased I would not/could not have purchased anywhere else. Buying online for me is not preferable for no matter how many photos there are you never truly see the item until you have unboxed it.

I'm only 65 minutes away, so it's tough to not justify the trip. I typically spend 5-6 hours there, go through each building fairly quickly, see the folks I want to catch up with, then head out. It's still sensory overload for me, even after nearly thirty trips, and if you have serious interest in prewar tinplate, there's no place like York.

Don't care to vote, because EDTCA York is always worth it to me and several others. Sure there is an outlay of $$$ to get there; perhaps a night or two at a hotel. York is just twice a year. And there are the bandit meets. One day I'll go spend a full week at York.

I have been to York 77 straight times so yes its worth it. I used to stay for three days but now its only one but if I could I would go for all three days. I will be going to York till the Lord calls me home. See you guys in April.

I have been going to York over 85 or more times 47 years. I spend the whole week there. We do Gettysburg, the antique shops, the Xmas tree stores and Lancaster the outlets and more and all the bandit shows. we drive 525 miles each way, and I am 93 years old.

I am 2 and a half hours away and I can tell you for the last four years I have searched for a MTH dealer appreciation NS Office train and no where were they to be found. Not EBay, auction sites, shows or even York. I found one this time at York and would not have found it if not for others telling me. So YES York is worth it. It may be getting smaller but it is still the closest and LEAST EXPENSIVE for me as far as cost other than what I buy at the show. Some times I come home with nothing but at least I met new and old friends. Originally I stayed for three days but lately I have been transporting my nephew and his son. Trust me, just watching his son is worth the trip and he is only a freshman in high school. works all year JUST for York!

Absolutely definitely! It’s an event I love to attend. Being around the trains, friends, meals together with great people and new friends. Sure, I can buy trains on the internet anytime. But it’s not anywhere near as much fun as being at the York Meet. I probably buy more stuff at York than any other time or place. I don’t feel the need to justify something that I completely enjoy. I feel like justification is only needed if I don’t go!
We all have things we like to do without a second thought. The York Meet is one of mine! I don’t need to bring home a jet full of trains to have fun there.

I don't know traindiesel. From what I hear you may need a jet just for your York findings!

I don't know traindiesel. From what I hear you may need a jet just for your York findings! The Voices were quiet until Saturday afternoon. My treasures fit into one box that UPS will deliver later this week. Too big for the overhead bins on the plane.
