For those of you who’ve been to York in recent years, you know about Jack Pierce and his FABULOUS passenger car interiors. His reputation is so well-known, he’s not even taking orders for new work until next year! He’s apparently a one-man show who’s got an impressive backlog for an even more impressive service offering.
Take a look at these quick photos I snagged on Thursday, and you’ll see what I’m talking about…Jack had a few pieces of rolling stock at the show. But by early Thursday afternoon, nearly all of them were sold… and you can see why.
For the ultimate in illuminated, finely detailed passenger car interiors… there are none better in this hobby than those from Jack Pierce.

Exquisite! If only my layout was worthy of such mastery.

Jack Pierce has made a lot of very imaginative use of fiber optics - you can see some strands of it in the first photo Rockymountaineer posted above, including in the illuminated cigar butt (!) although I think his signature feature is lit candles on dining car tables. I have seen his products at York and am amazed that he has the capacity to make cars such as these to sell; anyone who has tried this level of interior detailing knows how time consuming it can be.
Personally I have only ever used fiber optics in scale auto modeling as for most illuminated train interior features I really prefer ultra micro small LEDs even if the magnet wires leading to them are finicky. A load of them are in this dining car project that actually took some years of on and off work:
