There's already a thread started by Rockymountaineer David on a "sneak peek" of the Triplex brochure. I'm adding this thread separately although it is also a preview because I don't know exactly where this video I have stumbled across actually comes from. I'm hoping someone here can enlighten me.
This is 15 seconds of the unique tender wheel slip feature of this model, which is not just a sound feature as Lionel has done with some past steamers. There's no commentary but this must be a pre-production sample of this feature in operation:
The video appears to be made by Lionel. As I don't follow their Facebook page maybe it appears there, and maybe there's an explanation of how the tender has been engineered. The tender driving wheels can't have traction tires on them and I wonder if they even touch the rails at all.

Big deal, who really cares about these technological wonders that few can afford!, they would be better off if they would improve the entire line not just the top end. NOT A FAN!!

Dave The last technological wonder — the depleting coal load — was a complete bust IMHO. For the added cost to the product, Lionel could have left that feature on the drawing board. No use for it. The wheel-slip feature is a bit unique… but certainly not something that’s drawing me to buy.

Dave Yeah, well some people obviously do care because (1) I think, as do dealers, that this model will be a big seller judging by the lack of substantial pre-order discounts and (2) I agree that anyone would be worried about whether this will work as it should given Lionel's recent QC record.
I was looking at older pre-order prices for some of Lionel's other big articulated steamers that I had no interest in and the $2K+ street price barrier has been breached before now, which I had not realized.
The depleting coal load was definitely a lemon but they have repeated it.

The newest feature IMO from Lionel is the depleting bank account balance not to be confused with the increasing credit card account balance.
Just as in many hobbies, (audio equipment and audiophile vinyl record remastering/reissuing with which I am very familiar) it is all about the upgrade ladder. Have to have the newest versionitis.
In Lionel's case it is the upgrade feature ladder as they continually hawk the need to rerelease a 'new' version off an engine because of new sounds/technology features, and hand applied details to make this new version more prototypical and or realistic.
There is nothing wrong with that, but see it for what it is.
And BTW with all the praise for the new Lionel app did you notice that in the Triplex video Dave demonstrated the features with a hand held remote that Lionel no longer will produce.
Is there just a smidgen of irony in that?

I can now answer my own question about the source of the video: It’s one of several actually linked in the Lionel brochure. Being that I am not a human microscope/binocular I could not see the links when I read it!
