I’m guessing Menards has always had their rebate promotions. Their ‘trick’ is to get you to visit the store and buy more stuff while you’re there.
I’ll bet they did this before internet sales were a thing. Since Menards is mostly located in the Midwest, most of us on either coast, especially model train enthusiasts had never heard of them until they started selling trains. They don’t allow the rebate online so people, mostly local people, will visit the store.
Maybe someday they’ll expand to include internet sales. They were slow to allow shipping to California until recently. Some items I still can’t get.

It is a rip off to us living in non Menards area, I'm in S.C. but there more than happy to take our money. The thing about having to use in there store is in hoping while your in there you will buy more items.
I use to apply for the rebate but have it sent to S.J. and we split it 50/50 he would use it and send me 1/2 of it's value, so I still got something out of it.

Oh there are so many things that are irritating about Menards, but you have to be in a store to see it. Especially dealing with young employees. One kid I was tempted to ask him if his mother dropped him on his head.

I was at a Menards Sunday afternoon on my way home from Harbor Freight. To see what they had in the way of O gauge Tubular track. The track looks pretty good to me. Anyone here use it?
An isle-way full of buildings. Didn't see much in the way of freight cars.
One thing I have noticed the last couple of times I have been there is they have this large section in the store where they sell groceries and another area they have clothes and shoes. Starting to look like a wana- be Walmart that sells lumber.

I travel for Work and to the Mid-West sometimes. I just take the coupons with me.
