I've bought a an 8021 lionel b unit that i,ve spent a good bit of time pulling hair/fiber out of the wheels. Still the wheels seem gummed up. Any body know how to to get the wheels off the truck? Has a solid plastic bottom.

Can you remove the axles and wheels as one unit from the chassis? If so, you might be able to clean more using a long thin needle. Now early before I built a layout and had a carpet layout in which cat hair and fiber got into wheels. I used a needle to pull hair out and was a little stiff. I used my Dremel tool and put in a circular brass brush and a drop of light oil on axles and just touch with my Dremel running against the bottom of wheels till they spun free and in between got dirt and some hairs out which I couldn't see before.

Thanks. I separated the trucks from the frame and fished out the fibers with a small length of electrical wire, there's still something wrong. One set of wheels on one of the trucks will spin, but then catches. I THOUGHT i might replace that wheel/axle but the bottom plastic cover of the truck is all one piece from side cover to side cover. Can't figure how to separate from top metal plate to remove wheels.

Personally what I would do is spray some carb cleaner, (same as electronic cleaner) first and turn wheels by hand to loosen whatever is causing the wheels to stick. Then I would if it didn't work gently pry apart by hand to get the wheel set out clean and lubricate same as one would for a freight car. One other thing did you check axle so its not bent and also check to see if wheels are properly set and not out of spec.

Thanks. I think I'll just return it and wait for another one. Again, thanks for your input.
