One of my Christmas presents finally made it out to the train room today. Harry did a fantastic job with this model and the snow effect fits right into the theme of the layout.
I believe that this is one of the best Harry Hieke models ever.

I have to admit Brian, that shanty looks great placed on your layout. The pictures posted of them did not do them justice.

Thanks, Gary. The Crossing Shanty fit in well with the space I had planned for it. Speaking of the Shanty's footprint, it wil fit on most layouts.
If you ever wanted a Harry Hieke structure on your layout, this may be just the one for you. It is reasonably priced as well.

Looks great and being an octagon it has an historical background most signal shanty's were built just like that. This is a typical 1900's Switchman's crossing shanty. Not nearly as dressed up as Harry's.

January 28, 1904 and blowing northeast about 30, temperature going to warm up to 19 and about a foot and a half of the white stuff is expected by quitting time on top of the sleet that we got as the storm moved in.
No insulation and plenty of cracks that allow the โbreezeโ and an occasional flake to filter thru. Slop bucket = facilities.
Better than last summer. It hit 103 three days running, there was no breeze, and the black flies and mosquitoes were sucking blood every time they landed. Thank goodness for the window screens.
Those were the days.

Denny I bet you could get one of these at half price or less by calling your across the aisle train mate who makes them. Tell him that you want to be his Upper Central US Marketing Rep but you need product to display.
Oughta work.

"Did you get a street name on yours?"
Yes, I did get a street sign and believe it is Randolph. No significance as it is hidden.
