Most of us Department 56 fans model in winter which gives us a beautiful white background to work with. However only if you are modeling a deep woods scene(neutral in most cases is better), in my opinion there is clever modeling to be done to maximize the beauty of the white background.
My approach is to add a variety of color. And for me, it is typically a lot of color. Different trees, the different colors from our buildings, and the vehicles that I pay attention to as they present a rainbow of color opportunities.
I was going over the vehicles that I am using in the new display last evening, and this subject came to mind.
How about you. Do you look for color opportunities with your winter displays?

Although I like the snow scenes but I also like color mixed in with all that snow I have. The colored lights I have on the trees and some buildings really stand out. The buildings I have with color also add to the looks of the entire layout.

Model vehicles I picked up just for the new layout represent fifteen (15 UNIQUE COLORS.) That's one way of producing added color.
