For many years, I used Department 56 porcelain sidewalks for my layouts. But alas, the have not been made for many years. So, I had to find an alternative. I came up with 3" by 9" ceramic bathroom trim tiles. They will fit flush against the Department 56 buildings ( a super feature) and they have a slightly rounded curve for the front that should be perfect with the roads I am using.
I am excited about this solution. What do you think?

Do you have a tile cutter? Great idea though.

Here's another possibility which I use for concrete all the time. I take .040 Art Chipboard which you can buy in 30x40 inch sheets and, with the aid of a t-square and a sharp edged cutting blade like an Exacto, or better yet a surgeon's scalpel, just cut the board to the desired width. You can spray paint it a medium gray and use it as though it is a new pouring like this platform scene. or you can do things like use a jeweler saw to score the sheet to make seams - like I did to simulate the cement blocks below. Once you spray paint the sheet the scored sections will automatically give you contrast. If you want more contrast - for example the look of older concrete then all you have to do is dry brush various colors in a random pattern to give the look of stains and wear and if you want to add cracks all you need is a fine pointed scribing tool which you would use the same way you used the jewelers saw.
