First off let me say I use to think they where great, I bought from them regularly and normally got what I asked, any problem they took care of it, But..................
I think I'm done with Trainz for good. Ordered wheels and axles for 400 series passenger cars, what they had where for 300 series wheels, but sold as 400, who knows where they came up with the axles as they where way to thick, about 2 1/2 times the size, also the wheel holes where the size for O gauge axles. then I ordered a #9 it's wheels where put on wrong, it looked like a toonville engine going down the track, then ordered an Orange #9 and got a green one, returned that one. Then went back in and ordered the Orange one again, told it will only run in one direction, couldn't get it to run at all, the lights wouldn't even come on, put my spare Bild-A-Motor in and hooked lights up, they worked fine, So another piece of crap motor from them. I'm getting tired of this. And I really wanted this one. I think I'm going to see what needs to be fix and how they will reimburse me.

I have nothing but the best from TrainZ. There Customer service is top notch and they will do almost anything to get it right. If they can resolve the issue they will.

I have had no experience with them. Sounds frustrating, and time-consuming. Best in getting matters resolved - take a deep breath. Alfred

FWIW, my experience with Trainz has been mixed and as a result relatively limited. I think that they ship out so much, and receive so many consignments from private sellers, that it is impossible to check every item or manage perfectly a large parts inventory. I once got an articulated steamer from them that for some reason was missing the trailing truck but they were able to replace it from Lionel parts and did not charge me. However they must have received the engine in that state from the seller and as it was in its original box and shipping carton, I don't imagine it was checked before being advertised for sale at one of the highest TCA gradings and with no "as is" qualification.
OTOH, I have used them to source parts such as K-Line components I could not find anywhere else. But as I am not in the market for taking chances on purchases of items I really want they are my last resort and not first port of call. I actually find that many eBay sellers give more detailed info on the true condition of an item than Trainz does.

I don't have a problem with there customer service, it's the products they send, I really would see how they test things to determine the condition?

I've only bought a few O gauge items from them with no problem, but I think the Std. Ga. knowledge may not be in their ballpark. For pre-war items of any gauge I think a specialist is needed at their location, as I'd imagine there's a lot of mis-labeling.

Never been impressed with them. The reps at York don't seem knowledgeable at all. They did ship my one preorder on time. I have a story about a large purchase they made but won't put out there. If you sell them trains, get paid up front. Nuf said.

I have ordered at least a couple of dozen of items from TrainZ and only one issue of a engine that would not run. I sent it back and it was returned a week later, fixed. I don't think they can test every engine they sell but if there is a problem they will take care of it. Don't assume anything, send them a email and explain what happened. Btw I have nothing to do with TrainZ, just a customer.

I bought twice from them. Once a SF F3 AB in freight colors Blue/yellow (which I'm still looking for) and a NYC H10. Both engines were locked up and would not move. I received full refund so their customer service is great, but the hassle of deciding if I should repair or repackage and ship back. But cost in new products verses items on the secondary market and I really want something, who knows, I might try them again.

Few months back I bought a USA Trains 1:29 SF SD40-2 that was used from Trainz. Was advertised as "Sound Equipped" for $458. Problem was it had no sound. Contacted them, sent pics of the inside and fuel tank where speaker would be mounted. They replied with a $50 refund. I sent them an ebay link with same exact engine that was a brand new buy it now for $350 shipped and said $100 refund would suffice. Ended up sending engine back. I also asked them where I could buy a quality sound card for $50 with no reply. Phoenix Sound cost $200 as does RailPro. I convert large scale engines to PS3 and well you know those upgrade kits are over $200 now.

Not say the customer service department isn't top notch, as they are, just that it seems I keep getting things that aren't what they should be. Update on latest engine, repaired collector plate and got it running, but it is going to need bushing on the armature as it has a wobble that make the gears grow and that will cause unwarranted wear and problems down the road most likely.

I agree with the mixed results.

They are new into trains. A lot of their people are also new, and are just learning. They make a lot of mistakes. They also don't take enough pictures. I have been into trains 48 years, and I am still learning.

New??!! They've been in business since 1975. I've bought from them for over 10 years thru their various auction reiterations. Read about Trainz history here... Trainz History
