This topside view shows a Lionel SF Alco FA No. 218 (top, 1959-63) and SF Alco FA No. 220 (bottom, 1960-61). The details on the shell tops are the same ; other features are different – the 218 has a functional horn, and the 220 is slightly smaller. The degree of detail may not be comparable to the modern F-style diesels (not shown - maybe, someone can post a photo). Alfred

Alfred I don't have a direct overhead/topside view of an F series A unit but near enough I think is this snapshot of a powered Lionel B unit that was produced in 2005:

By that stage Lionel was going in for much more prototypical detail than before and the roof fans etc. are rendered accordingly.
Same goes for K-Line offerings of the same period such as this pair of Rock Island E8s. On these operating smoke was replaced by motorized roof fans:

Country Joe, Thanks for the grade crossing overhead. I am sure it gives a different perspective than the traditional side shot. Alfred

Andy, Thanks for this great stuff. Keep it up - I am running out of ideas and equipment for topside views - this last one was not too exciting, for that reason. Someone has got to launch a drone over their layout and give us some aerial views. Alfred .

Alfred, it would make very cool videos and photos to do as you suggest. I would do it and it would be fun but I don't have a drone. ☹️

Country Joe, The next best thing next to a drone, is to mount a web-cam above your layout. Alfred
