We are increasing the photo size today to 5 mgb. Thta should take care of most of you without having to resize your photos.
Our techincal folks suggest this as well in terms of resizing photos.

We needed to put a photo size limit of 5 MB per image, but you can help us even more (and make your forum posts load faster!) by compressing them to under 3-400 KB by using the compressor.
Thanks for your support - you've all made this a wonderfully successful forum!"

Now upgraded to 5 mgb. That should take care of 90% if the size issues when posting photos.

I just tried this compressor and it was easy peasey. I bookmarked it for my larger size images. I only had to use it on one and the rest just loaded with the "Add Attachment"

I just tried this compressor and it was easy peasey. I bookmarked it for my larger size images. I only had to use it on one and the rest just loaded with the "Add Attachment" That image shows no departure from your usual quality, Wood. I use an old version of Photoshop Elements to resize my photos. Although it has a setting to optimize photos for the web, they still come out a few Mb in size.

It froze up on my I-pad. Guess we will use the old way.
Thanks for handling it promptly.

It's a balancing issue and from the looks of it, I think we have taken care of most of the issues. I hope so.

Folks... just to be clear.... a 5MB photo limit is MORE THAN SUFFICIENT for our needs. In fact even that's an overstatement. And here's why:
I understand people just wanna capture photos and upload them straight from the camera for convenience sake. But in a way, that's a terribly INEFFICIENT use of resources. Good gosh... with a typical high-resolution (300dpi) 5MB file, print shops can produce HUGE poster-size print enlargements. We really only need low- to medium-resolution (72dpi) files that are often well under 1MB -- sometimes even below 512KB -- to see impressively sharp images on our computer displays. And mobile devices can get away with even smaller sized files.
I'm accustomed to tweaking images I capture anyway, so the step to resize them for efficient online viewing is a non-issue for me. Try it, and you'll be surprised how small your uploaded files really need to be in order to look impressively sharp and colorful on the forum.

The size of the photos is not the issue with me, it’s the fact you can’t scroll through multiple pics in a thread. Plus if you upload them to the forum they are displayed so small until you click on them opening up another page.
Big reason I don’t even bother with pics. A big down for a otherwise great train forum.
