I do not wish to start any rumors but at Allentown today a dealer told me that RMT Trains has been sold to a new owner based in Easton PA. Can anyone confirm if this information is correct?

Interesting “rumor”. The only Easton connection that I’m aware of is Emery Distribution. They’re the only authorized distributor for RMT train products as far as I know. So dealers need to work through Emory to get their merchandise — not Walter directly. I don’t think any of the new RMT products are sold via the RMT website currently.

“Rumor”? Why not - the saga of RMT is kind of a soap opera. I remember some years back when RMT products began appearing under the brand “O-Line Reproductions” the seller being Heartland Hobby Distributors in Nebraska. The products included a lot of what were originally K-Line items, especially SuperSnap track. The background was said to be that RMT ordered but did not pay for containers of products from China and these were picked up by Heartland around the time that Walter “retired”. Anyway I am glad to see he’s still going after what must have been a tough time business-wise. BTW, I don’t believe he has sold up, partly because I don’t know who’d pay for a toy train business these days!

I know very little about RMT but thought it would share this video I came across. This was posted just 2 months ago which might suggest that RMT is still around and kicking.

Checked this out further and you are correct. RMT (Walt) has apparently contracted Emery Distribution to do his marketing and sell his product. This may be the result of a reported inconsistent "on off" supply situation from RMT over the years.

I went right to the source. It clearly states on the RMT website:
All RMT items are ONLY available to order from an authorized RMT dealer unless otherwise noted.
Emory is probably handling the distribution to the Dealers. Most of the Dealers are those we are familiar with.

Emory is probably handling the distribution to the Dealers. ... There's no "probably" about it. Emery IS the official distributor of RMT product out to dealers. Emery has been a long-time distributor to hobby shops in general -- not just model trains... and not just RMT. Lots of train shops too small to deal with Lionel directly often work through Emery to get product. I've enjoyed supporting smaller train shops over the years. And I've often seen shipping labels from Emery to the mom-and-pop train shop on the shipping cartons. Not at all surprised to see RMT working with Emery for product distribution, as it very likely helped smooth the waters with dealers after RMT began selling directly to the consumer at deeply discounted prices BELOW those of its own dealer network YEARS AGO... now water under the bridge... and lots of bridges apparently mended now.
