Good theme for a thread. Great to hear from Sir James. All my rolling stock is early (before 1955) Lionel. The Refrigerated Milk Car (3472) and the B&O Automobile Box Car (6468) are scale; nothing else is scale, unless I’ve missed something. – a mix of road names, about 5 operating cars. No fantasy stuff or other manufacturers. Ho Hum. I am enjoying hearing about everyone’s freight collection. Alfred

I tracked down this photo - one boxcar (PFE) is very old K-Line and the other is MTH - but I’m not sure that either counts as fantasy?

I think that in a sense this qualifies as a freight car fantasy, 3rail O scale style.
Inspired by this thread I went hunting for a couple of my old favorite boxcars - very old as they are K-Line wood-sided reefers from many years back - and I must say that when I found them my first thought was that they simply don't make any freight cars like, or as fine as, they used to. The roof of each car is removable and as the first photo shows you can put in a full load of ripening banana bunches in it together with "ice" in some coolers at each end:
As you can also see, the cars came supplied with the banana bunch load and "ice" which I've never unpacked and mounted in the IGA car.
I defer to someone who knows about the prototypes to judge whether this is a reasonable representation of them, but I really like it. The cars are scale size:

These are cool - I wasn't aware of them. The bananas were definitely loaded/unloaded by the bunch in country of origin and off the fruit ships. The ice hoppers at each end would be prototypical for sure. Note the thick insulated doors, as was the whole car. The first photo is from Guatemala back when. The banana boat pic is from the excellent Shorpy site. So, sorta fantasy car but not quite All you need are a few O scale spiders. Dave

Guys, Nice pictures. I like those K-line reefers and own a few. It’s impressive the level of detail K-Line went to. Too bad they are gone. My father in law was a longshoreman in Baltimore his whole life. He said you had to be careful when unloading the bananas, because many times tarantulas were stowaways within the bunches.
