I consider myself very knowledgeable to repair pre-war and postwar locomotives, but I do not deal with the electronic boards of modern locomotives. My Lionel Visionline 5344 Hudson developed Legacy problems last year. I liked this locomotive so well that I decided to attempt to find a person who could repair this type of locomotive; but according to instructions from Lionel, I would need to have it repaired by Lionel as it was a Visionline product. Much to my dismay, I attempted to contact Lionel for the repair; but Lionel now repairs their trains only during a 90-day warranty period. Rather than placing the Visionline 5344 that I purchased in 2010 on the shelf, I joined the O-Gauge Form website and located a person that is more than capable of repairing this generation of engine. I boxed up the Hudson and sent it to Alex Malliae, owner of Jada Enterprises in Freehold, New Jersey. Alex corresponded with me to keep me posted of the progress that he was making. After two attempts, he finally acquired the correct Legacy replacement board that worked and had the correct features. He went through the entire locomotive and diagnosed and repaired crimped wires, and smoke unit issues. When I received the locomotive after it was repaired by Alex, it performed better than when it was new. I always had issues with smoke both from the smokestack and whistle--but no longer.
I thought that his prices for parts and labor were very fair and well worth the price. I am in the process of sending him my GE Evolution from 2010.
I just wanted to inform you of my very positive experience with Alex. If you have locomotives on the shelf that no longer function because of board problems, here is the place to have them repaired!

You hit a home run sending your Vision Line Hudson to Alex. I could almost recite your experience before I read it. Not only is he a great Lionel surgeon, he enjoys doing it!

Alex is the best, if it is Lionel he can fix it.
